I’m a bit stumped for ideas for my so this year. I’m actually after some suggestions from presents from grandparents as my Mum is asking me. I don’t want more ‘stuff’ as he’s never really played with toys. He’s very sporty, loves football but also most sports really, he has a PS4 but I don’t know what games would be good (he’s asked for FIFA 20 but it’s overbudget for my parents...any other good games he’d enjoy?), he’s getting tickets for a football match from us and Hype clothing, maybe board games, or good books for his ages? But any suggestions would be great! Thanks!

I caved and asked the ex sil (don’t ask) going to get him the stik bot animation studio just in case that helps anyone

My Ds (13, 11 and 6) love exploding kittens so a good game, just get basic set rather than the fancy ones as extra cards make it less enjoyable.

My boys like cash these days and for Ds 11 Birthday a few days ago we go a film frame in a picture of things, framed with a pic in. He loved it. Also kWD clothes! I hate them but they love the brand !

There are some great ideas on here - thanks for posting Coffee! My DS is 11 a few days after Christmas so very similar problem to you Grin

My ds is also 11 and definitely beyond toys now. He's getting a wooden alarm clock and pretend book reading light (we saw these at a museum in Edinburgh), aftershave, a toiletry bag (now he's starting to go places over night without us), a new passport holder, a nice pen, he plays the guitar so a tuner that clips on, he helps dp with motorbike mechanics so some mechanic gloves, American snacks and BIC evolution pencils. That's what I've got so far!

Fitbit or cheaper version, gaming Chair, alexa, books, stadium tour, cinema pass, air Pods, headset, popcorn maker

In the same situation @CoffeeChocolateWine , DS turns 11 just before Christmas, so double stuff to have to buy!

I'm feeling really stumped this year, not helped that DS doesn't play with toys anymore but he also isn't into the Xbox enough to want to spend much on games for that. He has started getting interested in clothes though so I might get a few nice bits. Other than that he likes writing, but there's only so many pens and note pads I can buy him!!

@CoffeeChocolateWine
He's 11
He still loves Diary of a wimpy kid & Tom Gates even though they are very easy to read
We have all of the Alex Rider series of spy books
Heroes of Olympus series, Trials of Apollo Series & Magnus Chase Series by Rick Riordan
Maze Runner series by James Dashner
Michael Morpurgo books
Terry Pritchett - truckers, wings, dragons of crumbling castle, only you can save mankind, diggers
Wonder and Auggie & me both by RJ Palacio
The 1000 year old boy, Time Travelling with a Hamster and What not to do if you turn invisible all by Ross Welford
David Baddiel kids books
Judith Kerr - Bombs on Aunt Dainty, A small person far away and when hitler stole pink rabbit
There are more but that's all I can think of off the top of my head

CoffeeChocolateWine · 25/09/2019 11:36

Thanks @wonkylegs. DS is definitely into the same kind of books and there’s plenty in your list that he hasn’t read so will look into them.

He’s read all of the Wimpy Kid, Tom Gates and Alex Rider books and he’s just started reading a Rick Riordan book (Kane Chronicle I think) so will see how he enjoys that one and good to know there’s plenty more if he likes it! He absolutely inhaled Wonder in one sitting. Didn’t realise there was another book.

thanks again for all the fab ideas. The Stikbot animation thing looks fun...I just wonder if it’s the sort of thing my DS would play with once and then put away never to be seen again. He does still play with his Lego but I don’t think he’d be excited to get more. He’s more sporty than playing with toys but not quite into aftershave and toiletries just yet. He plays guitar but we got him loads of guitar stuff for his last birthday so doesn’t really need anything at the moment. He would love a gaming chair but we don’t have the space for it. He has a Fitbit type thing.

I’ve just remembered something I thought of ages ago that he’d love and I totally forgot about it! He loves water sports and he loves my husband’s proper hooded super thick, super warm changing towel. He nicks it all the time and it drives DH crazy! That’s going on the list too!

@CoffeeChocolateWine the other book Auggie & Me is the same story from other character's perspectives - it's great and very clever

angemorange · 25/09/2019 13:13

Would agree re go for Fifa 20 - it's all most of them want!

My DS got a poker set (cards/chips etc) from his aunt last year and loved it! We now have family card night and its great fun.

Tickets to football match? Apart from Premier League they can be fairly Ok cost-wise.

Iwoot and the science museum shop have lots of stuff if he is into science.

If he reads what about a kindle?
