What to get 7 year old boy who does not like toys?

My son has never really been in to toys now hes older its more and more obvious that he is really not in to toys.
Ive got a few ideas of things that go along with his hobby but what other ideas to people have for 7/8 year olds that do not play with toys. His birthday is December as well which makes it even hard.
We already have a lot of passes to places as a family etc.
Any advice please?

What about a fit bit for kids? My similar ds is looking for a nerf gun and a rebounder this year.

My 7 year old is similar and a little bit nerdy (ASD) so very into his maths and science.
He doesn’t enjoy playing with toys.

He does love things like:
Science experiment kits
Puzzles - fun ones like ‘bop it’ that he can play with other people or by himself
Board games are usually a winner because he will play them with others
Jigsaws
He loves puzzle books like suduko and word searches
Art and craft things
And mechano type toys
Also I’m thinking as my boy enjoys being a bit more outdoorsy of buying him a stunt remote control car type thing he can play with inside and outside

Amazing ideas. Thank you all so much, many of these ideas also have a wow factor for birthday and christmas mornings!

Ds has a couple of puzzle games that he has loved too - Rush Hour and some Smart Games like IQ focus and Puzzler Pro.

Rush hour you can get as an app - basically a car park with a load of cars that you have to move in order to get the red car out. And while he loved the app he really enjoys the tactile hands-on game more. It comes with a graded set of puzzle cards to work through (you can buy expansion packs too!)

The other games are similar but smaller and they make a big range depending on age and interest.

Labyrinth is the only board game that consistently gets played with - works for groups with mixed ages in too as there’s an element of luck as well as skill!

My ds is the same, slightly older at 9.

Things that have gone down well:

Sports kit for his favourite team
Bike accessories
Dot to dot books (the complicated ones for grown ups from the works)
Echo dot

DS is similar.
Echo dot, Beano subscription, gaming rocker and monopoly deal went down well last year.

We are taking just him to see marvel live, it will be nice to have some special time together and DD has had this in the past. I'm considering getting them both cinema vouchers to go towards their Christmas present or panto tickets for between Christmas and New year

I have ordered rush hour from amazon actually, thats his kind of game.
We also have a local skate park which im planning on getting him a membership for and a gift card with so many skate sessions.
He would love a gopro camera and thats been added to his list.
Thank you again

I'm noting down some of these!

Has anyone said metal detector? They can be fun outdoors.

How about a pack of cards and a card trick book.

Or a calculator..... seriously when I was 7 that was one of my best presents. That and a calculator 'trick' book.

Another thought - juggling balls or a diabolo.

mummyof2boys30 · 23/09/2019 20:22

We have got our two boys the akaso e7000 camera (cheaper version of go pro.) Went down to £33 on Amazon last week and has amazing reviews

You’ve had loads of fantastic suggestions, some of which I’m going to pinch for my own 7 year old who’s not particularly into toys. Have you looked at Smart Games? There’s loads of different ones, my ds loves them.

Bubblysqueak · 23/09/2019 21:14

A Kindle ?

PetetheCat · 23/09/2019 22:14

A fast remote control car? I'm pretty sure you can buy ones that do stunts so although it's a toy, it's a fun one!

Board games, maybe a vintage one like 'Atmosphere'?

Laser guns?

Marsis · 24/09/2019 22:32

What about something like Snap Circuits if he’s academic fun but not a toy as such?

NationMcKinley · 24/09/2019 22:40

I do feel your pain! My eldest and youngest are like this. They will play football / ride bikes for hours but zero interest in toys. Luckily the oldest one is a bookworm but the youngest is a bit small for that. In contrast the middle one will play for HOURS. Their aunt always used to buy them all Toys R Us / Entertainer vouchers (“all children love toys!!!”) and it was a nightmare as two of them really didn’t!

Good luck!
