For DD who'll be 8 just after Christmas. She already has a tablet so we want something the whole family can play with - also have a 3yo. What's going to be the best choice going forward?

Also you cant get netflix on the switch.

Switch. Tons of cheap games and the controllers are pretty robust in my experience.

You can also take it out and about when she's a bit older - invaluable on long train journeys

@gamerchick I too have owned most consoles. Let's just say that when my grandson visits (he's 7) he always goes for the Switch. He never touches the Xbox One X except getting me to use it to join his Minecraft game.

He loves the Switch so much he wants one for his birthday.

As for the Joycons. They seem no more fragile than any other controller to me. My grandson isn't broken mine. Yet. Grin

Second best gaming platform after a Switch is an iPad^ if you ask me. *

^ Yes, unless you play Call of Duty or whatever. Smile

Id get a Wii u. Games are cheaper and the handset/ controllers are way more robust. You can pick them up second hand.

Ps4. Way less expensive than switch, better bundle deals and a much wider range of games for all ages, plus they're more affordable. You can also use the console as a dvd/ blu ray player and stream other apps through it.

My 7 and 10 year olds play on their Switch, they have had friends with a Switch come round and hooked up all 4 joy cons and played together. The joycons are sturdy, you can but other full size controllers extra that may be even sturdier. We have it connected to a tv and they rarely use it as a handheld. We have played together as a family, they play together or individually too. Very versatile and a good range of child friendly games. They have a PS4 too, and don't play it as much as the Switch.
