DD, 2.5. Don't want people telling me how bad I am for buying character products or that it's too much money Smile

DD has two favourite programmes, one is very un-known and the other is massive. I can either buy her a very good quality toy (more creative play and it looks excellent and the reviews are brilliant) for the well known one for £95 or I can get custom made plush characters (the main two characters) for £145 (expensive shipping but I've seen loads of her work and she's excellent). As they're both character based, I don't know which one will be more appreciated. She says the un-known one is her favourite quite a lot but it's a lot of money for two plush toys. What would you pick?

Neither of my kids have got much out of cuddly/plush toys after the initial excitement when they receive them. So I’d go for the more mainstream programme as it sounds like it will get played with more.

Whymustyoubringinthebirds · 19/09/2019 12:43

I would pick the toy

AlwaysaLittleBitTired · 19/09/2019 12:50

At 2.5 it's all about 'playability' (I know that's not a word). I would opt for the toy. She can also play with that when friends come over.

The plush toys sound lovely, and I'm sure your DD would love them instantly, but then they would be left. I did something similar, and my DD (12) still has to have the thing on display in her room, although she hates it, so I suspect it was for my own indulgence really rather than for her.

I would go for the toy, as pp said it would give more opportunity for play and maybe a bit more wow factor when opened! I'm sure whatever you choose will be lovely Smile

Soft toys, unless it's that absolute favourite they take on holidayy, go to the park with and sleep with every night etc are 5minute wonders. Plus with TV shows their favourite can change overnight.

BringMoreCoffee · 19/09/2019 19:27

Totally agree with PPs about the "play value" and I'd go for the toy.

EdtheBear · 19/09/2019 19:34

I'd go with the toy.
Soft toys can be 5 min wonders. Not to mention how would you feel if in 6 mths if she's moved on to something completely different.

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 19/09/2019 19:38

I'd go with the creative toy. Plush toys tend not to hold their interest.

Doubledoubledouble · 19/09/2019 19:47

The toy. Plush toys won’t be played with much.

totsalot · 19/09/2019 20:16

Ooh is that the wooden Peppa pig house by any chance? It looks really fun!

Opheliasgoldenwine · 19/09/2019 20:46

Maybe @totsalot Wink saw it on another thread!

Go for the cheaper one with more play value, definitely. My daughter is the same age and she likes cuddly toys but doesnt "play" with them. Something creative/imaginative will get much more play time.

StarStarBright · 20/09/2019 13:06

I’d buy the toy. The plushies sounds like a more sentimental thing that you’ll like more. I say this because I bought my newborn some limited edition Beatrix Potter soft toys that I still love and he (now a 4 year old) couldn’t care less about 😆

EdtheBear · 20/09/2019 18:07

Just a thought for would a generic dolls house be better than a Peppa Pig one?
With the logic that Peppa could use any dolls house, but Peppa would potentially be outgrown long before a dolls house.
