Homemade vouchers for female DP. Need ideas!

Inthetropics · 18/09/2019 13:07

DP and I have decided to exchange homemade coupon booklets this Christmas. Each booklet is to have 20 vouchers. I want to be creative and am in need of some good ideas. DP really needs some cheering up as Dfil has terminal pancreatic cancer and DP is undergoing major surgery due to an ovarian tumor in the next few months so i want to make an extra effort for our Christmas.

If it helps, DP is a 33yo woman, we don´t have children and live in a country where we celebrate Christmas in summer. She loves to cook and is a massive foodie. She also likes cross stitching and has a passion for crafting.

Rubicon80 - Because she adores caprese salada and crostini and i'd be doing the cooking myself! Hmm

I completely disagree with what you've said about this thread! Of course i'll only pick sugestions that would suit my DP!

NaturalBlondeYeahRight - Some original ideas! Thanks! The boat wouldn't be something she'd like but the photo album is lovely! A PP sugested a family photo and i can arrange that plus the photo album. The brunch is also a great idea!

Keep'em coming people!

OP, this thread would have gone better if you'd stated that you were a woman in the first post. You shouldn't have to, but there it is.
You're having your arse handed to you because some people aren't reading properly and think you're a man. If they'd known you were a woman they'd be falling over themselves to show how non -homophobic they are.
Sad but true.

Rubicon80 · 18/09/2019 23:01

@Flamingo84 Because she’s cooking it at home. Do you normally present a DP with a menu for the evening and allow them to make a selection? confused

No. And neither do I make out that making dinner is a superlative effort that requires a 'voucher' in exchange. Does that help your 'confusion'?

If I had to ask a load of strangers on the internet what my partner would like, I would conclude that I didn't know them at all.

Why do you think that anyone thinks the OP is male?

Inthetropics · 18/09/2019 23:01

InsertFunnyUsername - Recreating our first date would be unfeasible but a takeaway is such a simple idea and something we haven't done in a while so it might be nice! Thank you!

silverystream - The music night sounds lovely! DP is very romantic and loves music and food. Never thought of having theme food to match our favorite songs! DP has worked as a cook before and plans on working with gastronomy when she is feeling better. I am not even half as good as her when it comes to cooking but she loves it when i cook for her so a promise to cook a brand new recipe for her might result in her picking something VERY challenging just for the fun of it!

TheGirlWhoLived · 18/09/2019 23:09

Gosh @Inthetropics you have hit upon some proper fun-suckers! What happened to not saying anything if you have nothing nice to say!? How can people get so bloody angry about someone asking for ideas.... give an idea or don’t comment?

The ‘vouchers’ that went down best for dh were:
Cancel That Invite (dh could give in this voucher and avoid whichever party/parents evening/inlaw visit that he chose. Only one though)
Complete Evening Override (dh could give in this voucher and it would override whatever was planned for tea - usually something carb free and healthy was replaced by going out for a meal and getting plastered)

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 18/09/2019 23:09

This is a lovely idea, are the vouchers things you can do or do they involve going out/spending money etc?

Tbh, I'd love a subscription to a craft magazine, massage and pampering night, picnic on the beach/in the woods, trip to a local landmark, a class in my favourite craft - or there are craft weekends where you can try a variety of things, box set of my favourite show, theatre tickets for something you know she'd love, balloon ride, champagne breakfast (homemade, watch the sunrise together.. or moon rise if she's like me!) romantic meal...

links DH to thread

On the practical side, make a gift for her in her favourite craft, make romantic candles, get a candle with both your names on it, valet her car, make a photo collage of your life together, bake her favourite cake, arrange a special day with her family...

seriously DH...

Hope something here is helpful OP!!

Wellmet - Some people will deny it, but i completely agree with you. Very sad.

I wouldn’t reply to a thread any differently if it was a f-f relationship, m-m or m-f though! Surely a gifts a gift!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 18/09/2019 23:15

As it’s the summer
Big bunch of hand picked & tied flowers from either a market or a garden.
Seeds for non woody grow your own herbs such as coriander / basil / parsley to use in cooking.
DIY plaster cast of your hands entwined. ( you’ll have to google this for ingredients)
Invite some crafters over for a coffee morning so they can show each other their crafts. ( start a meet up group to find) if your house isn’t big enough; meet at a pub or café.

Inthetropics · 18/09/2019 23:19

TheGirlWhoLived - I'm now focusing on the positive responses. Smile

DP would probably enjoy the Complete Evening Override and have us eat a burger or something! I'm afraid i'd be the one to love receiving a
Cancel That Invite voucher!

Rubicon80 someone actually referred to "his" DP, ironically with the username 'Biologyisntbigoted'

OP, could you do some blank ones like "a trip of your choosing" or "a new item" assuming your partner would be considerate and not ask for anything too far fetched or expensive.

Inthetropics · 18/09/2019 23:23

OnceUponAMidnightBeery - It can be both; spending some money is ok. You gave some lovely sugestions but my favorite one is the baloon ride! This would probably go down well as she says she is curious abour sky diving!

OP posts:
Inthetropics · 18/09/2019 23:27

CurlyWurlyTwirly - I also thought of a herb garden but i must find a way to make this possible. You see, Dcats and Ddog might want to eat the seeds...Grin

IDontDrinkTea · 18/09/2019 23:32

Ah I think this is a lovely idea. Sorry you’ve met a whole bunch of soul suckers on this thread Hmm

Are there any cooking shows she’s in to? We’ve previously enjoyed recreating them at home. Eg the old ready steady cook show where you have to give your partner a random selection of ingredients and they have to turn it into a meal. Or we’ve recreated great British bake off as they release the recipes for the technical bakes and we’ve competed against each other to see who can make it best in the time frame. Don’t know where you live and what shows you have but would that idea work?

Inthetropics · 18/09/2019 23:32

The Fatberg - "A new item" might be nice! Will also include some coffee after we go shopping. Wink

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 18/09/2019 23:38

Sounds like that would be a winner, glad I could help! Maybe sky-diving lessons? Or an introductory session? Tandem skydive? (If you're braver than I am you could go too?!)

If you have a trellised (sp??) wall, apparently herbs grow well in hanging pots, or on windowsills if that helps?

disclaimer can't keep a weed alive

Inthetropics · 18/09/2019 23:38

IDontDrinkTea - We live in Brazil and i don't know the shows you've mentioned but there are a few cooking shows she adores and we watch them together. I am not a great cook whereas she's worked with gastronomy before (wedding buffets, mostly) so the result might not be so good if we were to recreate the shows. I make diet desserts for her on a regular basis (she is diabetic) and we might be able to recreate somethings like a cooking show as ling as it's baking related. Will do some research on this!

OP posts:
Inthetropics · 18/09/2019 23:42

OnceUponAMidnightBeery - I couldn't possibly skydive! I can hardly dive dive! She'd be very excited with sky-diving!

Unfortunately we have the smallest garden in the world. Very small. And the dog has taken posession of all that's in it including my rose bush! Angry

Something I've always wanted to do, a 'clue' in the voucher, leading to a treasure hunt with little treats along the way... can be done in the house/ local area or involve her driving to a special place/ event... would tie in with many ideas, if she would like that kind of thing??

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 18/09/2019 23:47

Hmm, maybe a sunny wall and hanging pots might be your best bet? My dogs are the same Grin

Barbarara · 19/09/2019 05:23

I’d love a voucher that promised to nip out to the shops for chocolate for me in the evening even if you’d already taken off your shoes. Grin

StoatofDisarray · 19/09/2019 05:58

I like being read to - how about a voucher for reading a bedtime story? There are lots of excellent short stories out there.

sashh · 19/09/2019 06:16

A trip to an art gallery or better still to an actual artist.

A European Xmas (orwinter) experience (either the two of you or get friends involved), do it later in the year - put the air con up full - borrow portable ones if you can't get the place cold.

Fake snow on the windows.

Get one of those kids water slides and add water and ice, if friends are coming round make this the path to the front door.

Wrap Up in blankets and jumpers and drink hot chocolate (I'd probably add vanilla vodka to it) then have a roast dinner and Xmas pud, he food it's too hot to eat normally.

Don't completely discount the cooking shows, have you seen come dine with me? Get a couple of friends to join and do 4 meals over 4 days BUT you each have a character, you have to stay in character for the 4 meals and the vote. So your character could be the one who orders everything ahead of time and just serves it.

Even more fun if you filmit.

Never thought of having theme food to match our favorite songs!

Can you get Eurovision in Brazil? Maybe someone could send you a recording.

This is best done with a group of people, you have loads of food and drink ready to represent each country - you are only allowed to eat or drink for who is on scree at the time so when it's Australia (don't ask) you could be eating damper or drinking wine.

It's fine to have a single food represent more than one country so a salad with olives and feta for greece and cyprus.

You do this for the songs and if you have the stamina for the scores too.
