Hoping you lovely lot can help me come up with some stocking ideas for someone who is going to Oz for a long holiday just after Xmas
So far I have those wipes for festivals, like a shower in a wipe type thing (to freshen up)

It's not as easy as I thought

I don't think someone would want to take stuff with them? Cheaper and easier to buy there?

Why would they need a body sized wipe ?

Threeminis · 17/09/2019 22:42

Age?

storminabuttercup · 17/09/2019 22:55

The body wipes are for the long journey.

Male mid 30's.

Just thought I could get quirky stuff for the journey

My cousin lives in NZ

He always complains that the chocolate doesn't taste the same as here. Is there a favourite chocolate bar or something you can put in?
Also, he always asks for Irn Bru

What about some sunglasses?
A pocket sized bottle of spf?
Battery operated fan?

The body wipes are for the long journey.

A pack of handwipes might be more practical. I have Boots cucumber face wipes in my plane bag- smell nice.

Are they stopping on route? What about lounge access in Singapore/Doha or wherever for a shower?
Noise cancelling headphones are good for long haul.
Subscription to download films onto iPad or kindle unlimited.
Water bottle that can be refilled after security screening.
Snacks if flying economy. Sweets or nut type (mate be a nut free flight though) not chocolate. They must be left on the plane if not eaten in some countries.
Sleepsuit.
Lip balm
Paracetamol
Eye mask if in economy- they usually supply in other classes.
Jumper as it can be cold.
Banana
Hand gel

I do 12-13 hour flights most months. Less is more baggage wise. if non stop to Australia you would just sleep more I imagine.

This bag is the favourite with the regular flyers on the BA FlyerTalk board. Folds up when not in use but perfect size for hand luggage.

Skip the amenity bag as lot of the airlines to Australia still give these out for free even in economy and people like to choose their own stuff as it’s precious hand luggage space. If the budget allows I’d get them noise cancelling headphones and if they will have time then definitely lounge access for their stop over- I would appreciate this so much more than a load of mini toiletries and it seems like a luxury splurge you might not buy yourself even though it isn’t usually that expensive.

Travel pillow
Sleeping mask

Are you sure he's going to want it? I mean that kindly and say it as an expat who lives a long haul flight away.

For me, going back to the UK at Christmas last year made for nightmare packing for the return journey. Even though family gifted me "just little things that will fit in your suitcase" (I asked for no presents at all), all those little things added up and I ended up having to spend a lot of money on a small case I don't need just to fit it all these "little things" (ie stuff I don't really want or need) back home.

But I also have two young kids and packing is a nightmare anyway, so this could be colouring my view!

If you're really set on giving him something, what about some edible stuff that he can eat/share while he's over there? Or if you must, a book for the flight.

Nice passport cover. We have one with pockets for card etc which is really handy at the airport.

Nice luggage tag.

Good book.

LittleMousewithcloggson · 18/09/2019 10:40

We do a lot of long haul flights and wouldn’t want to be given anything (other than a good book) for the journey
Second the poster that said about an airport lounge reservation
Would book one for this side and stop over side if possible
Comfy chairs, newspapers, free drinks and snacks (some have full free meals) so such a nice way to relax prior to the flight

EndoftheWorlds · 18/09/2019 16:57

Nice passport cover. A pain as you have to remove it for all scanning which is electronic. So out at checkin in, out at passport control, out at gate etc etc

Gatepost1820 · 19/09/2019 09:02

I'd just give him cash in a gift envelope, he can choose what to treat himself on holiday.

Thanks all
