OP posts:
Yutes · 17/09/2019 19:09

Last Christmas comes out this year

BrieAndChilli · 17/09/2019 19:10

God I love Christmas films - even the cheesy movie channel ones!

Figgygal · 17/09/2019 19:11

I'm a Christmas free zone until December 1st and I love xmas films and songs but I preserve it for December

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/09/2019 19:16

There are so many versions of A Christmas Carol.

My favourite is the animated Jim Carey one (I took the DC so see it one year on Dec 23rd , DD nearly peed herself at the Marley Face/Door Knocker ..luckily it wasn't in 3D Xmas Grin )

I'll pass on the Ross Kemp one and A Carole Christmas (Tori Spelling)

afrikat · 17/09/2019 19:17

You have inspired me to start watching them already. Last year I rattled through all the crappy ones on Netflix like Christmas Prince (loved them) and I'm excited about any new ones coming out!

Redshoeblueshoe · 17/09/2019 21:16

I watched Miracle on 34th Street about a month ago Blush

Lucked · 17/09/2019 21:27

I love Christmas films

Scrooged
It’s a wonderful life
Die Hard 😁
Love Actually
The family Stone

And DH has a soft spot for The Santa Clause and Home Alone series.

wibbletooth · 17/09/2019 21:51

Just come on here to check that you had all spotted the Sony Christmas movie channel is now live. Have already watched a couple of trashy made for tv Christmas movies last week to have on in the background (much to the horror of dh and the dc 😂) but there’s only so much Brexit and bad morning tv I can cope with!

One that’s handy to have as a dvd if you have young kids is the Tom and Jerry Nutcracker’s Tale - it’s lovely! Basically it’s set to the music of the Nutcracker ballet and tells that story but with Tom and Jerry watching/participating from the sidelines with their usual slapstick antics.

There’s the odd few words but for the most part it’s music and there are lots of very funny moments so it’s great to have on in the background if say you don’t want the kids sitting and watching tv but they want the tv on. My dc used to put it on (and ds2 who was 10 last year still put it on several times at Christmas!) because they felt happy that the tv was on, but because there wasn’t lots of speech they would play their games so the music was a great background and whenever they looked up —or I wandered into the room— there would be something funny to see but they would stillthen go back to their games. Or for having on in the car as a dvd for a long journey - didn’t need to concentrate to much and was more like having a music cd in the background rather than a film with lots of speech that blares out just behind your head and is very intrusive. (Or is that just the dvd set up in my car?!?)

Very different type of film from trashy tv Xmas movies or all the Xmas classics like Home Alonr and Elf etc, but still a useful one to have in your arsenal if you have kids!

Redshoeblueshoe · 17/09/2019 23:13

Wibble thank you
The perfect anecdote to all news channels !
I'm going to be watching Xmas TV until at least Easter Grin

TheRLodger · 17/09/2019 23:14

I’m looking forward to seeing the new Christmas movie with Emma Thompson and Emilia Clarke in it

blacksmiths09 · 18/09/2019 08:15

Sony film channel is now showing christmas films 24-7.

Channel 319 on Sky. Most are crap - although Christmas with the Kranks was on the other night!

By the way - Christmas with the Kranks is defo in my top 5 Christmas films.

GhostOfChristmasPudding · 18/09/2019 09:33

Every year our must-haves are:

It’s A Wonderful Life
Polar Express
Christmas With The Kranks
Scrooge - the Alastair Sim version
Elf
Home Alone 1&2
Mickey’s Once (and Twice) Upon A Christmas
Miracle on 34th Street

Then a pile of unadulterated crap from the Christmas channels usually finds its way in too. Grin

merrygoround51 · 18/09/2019 15:43

I could watch The Family Stone any time

Xenadog · 18/09/2019 17:45

Die Hard
Christmas with the Kranks
Home Alone 1 & 2
Muppets Christmas Carol
It’s A Wonderful Life
The Long Kiss Goodnight
Deck the Halls
Elf
Bridget Jones’ Diary
Love Actually
Jingle All The Way

These are the minimum I must watch before Christmas. I LOVE Christmas films.

We have The Nutcracker (ballet) , 2 versions, the Royal Ballet, and the Bolshoi. Bolshoi one is old, so the Christmas tree doesn't 'magically' grow huge, but I still love it.

Yutes · 02/10/2019 09:17

Ah! This cold morning has got me watching Snowman and the Snowdog

SuzieBishop · 03/10/2019 17:31

The National Lampoons Christmas film!!!!

Abibranning · 03/10/2019 19:24

I like all those listed above but if you like Seth Rogan, The Night Before is awesome so funny. Christmas with the Coopers and Surviving Christmas are good. Loved the Christmas Chronicles last year (although may have watched it a couple of times this year too). I always watch the red shoes too but don't know why I see that as a Christmas movie. I'm looking forward to adding more movies this year.

Abibranning · 03/10/2019 19:26

Oh and I now have a Christmas horror movie Krampus

mogtheexcellent · 03/10/2019 19:30

Ive been working from home with the Sony Christmas channel on Blush

Abibranning · 03/10/2019 19:45

Mog, such a good idea. Just rembered Deck the Halls, Bad Mom's Christmas, Office Chrismas Party, Daddy's home 2, Almost Christmas and This Christmas. I think I may have a problem...

Yutes · 03/10/2019 21:43

My usual tradition is -
The Nightmare Before Christmas (multiple times before December)
Little Women
The Snowman
snowman and the snowdog (big tick already)
Elf
Krampus
The Christmas Chronicles
Father Christmas
Home Alone
Two Night Stand (worth a watch - sexy rom
Com about being snowed in!)

jo10000 · 03/10/2019 22:12

Barbie and the Nutcracker
The American President
Serendipity
About a Boy

We watched Home Alone in New York last weekend so we're already going for it!

user1573334 · 04/10/2019 00:44

My hard to please 6 year old and myself really enjoyed the new animated Grinch last year so I think I will buy a digital copy of that, but I really like the Jim Carrey version as well.

My favourites are The Santa Clause, Home Alone 1 and 2, the 90's Mara Wilson Miracle on 34th Street (never seen the original!) Gremlins (fight me) the Mickey classic Christmas movie/episodes are a must too.
