Which kitchen ?!

Hello all!
Decided (after little persuasion from fellow munsnetters Wink ) that I’m going to get my little one a kitchen for Xmas. He will be coming up to two years old.
Which one do you all recommend? I’ve seen asda, aldi and ikea all suggested?
Thanks all!

The Ikea one, for sure. It's sturdy and lasts forever- all 3 of mine play with it (7, 4, 2) and it has space to store the food and pans etc in it too.

Are there ever any offers on the ikea kitchen? I love a bargain!

It depends how you feel about giving second hand toys for Christmas, but the Ikea one tends to come up frequently on local selling pages. The design means it tends to last really well and look like new for years, so it might be worth considering. You’ll then have more to spend on beautiful wooden toy food 😂.

We got an ELC one five Christmases ago. We've just moved country with it for the third time and it's still going strong.

The IKEA one lasted us five years of steady use and still looked great when we gave it to a younger relative. I found it quite hard work to assemble, but once it was built, it was really hard wearing.

I like the look of the light up hob on the ikea one. I’ll have to get the tape measure out I think

Hadn’t even thought of elc, I’ll have a nosey there too, thank you!
I’ve looked at second hand but only ones at the minute are battered and pen scribbled!

We liked the Ikea one too

Smarshian · 13/09/2019 08:56

We got the Asda one a couple of years ago and my then one year old pulled the door off within about 2 months.
The ikea one is much sturdier.

funnyfeeling · 13/09/2019 09:03

We have the Asda one and most of it has lasted really well but the tap fell off and the design makes it hard to screw it back on again.

We got an Ikea one second hand for dc2 when he was almost 2 or some thinking like that. It was in such great condition, already constructed (bonus!) and the people who sold it include loads of pots and pans etc. If you don't mind giving second hand for xmas it can be a bargain and they last really well. You couldn't tell it had been preowned really. Our dc certainly was oblivious!

PinkDaydreams · 13/09/2019 09:24

Looks like it’ll be the ikea one as it sounds a lot sturdier. I’d rather pay more for quality which is what it sounds like. Thanks all! :)

Does anyone know if there’s ever any offers on the ikea kitchen at all please?

We got a pastel coloured wooden one from ELC when DC1 was 2 and have just got rid of it this year and that was after 11 years and 3 more children. It was a two sided kitchen with one flat end and a curve at the other end. Was only just over 1m long.

It was played with endlessly by my kids and visiting kids. It combined with wooden food items that Velcro together and you “cut” apart with a wooden knife have been fantastic.

PinkDaydreams · 13/09/2019 14:56

I had a look on elc before but couldn’t see much. Maybe they’ll release another before Xmas.

Oh I’ve just noticed the ikea one doesn’t have turn dials on the oven. He loves the dial on the washing machine so was hoping to get a kitchen with dials on for him to turn.

There’s a new Ikea one for £40. Got my little girl it for her first birthday and it seems sturdy- hob doesn’t light up but does have the clicky buttons 😁

Nixen · 13/09/2019 15:17

The clicky dials that should have said!

HJWT · 13/09/2019 16:23

We bought the Ikea one second hand and up cycled it! You could add your own nobs, its really easy. But them cheap on eBay and drill a hole xx

Knobs*

Tinkhasflown · 15/09/2019 08:58

I have both elc one (in my kitchen) and ikea one (in the playhouse) coming 9 years old.

Both very sturdy and have lasted the test of time and rough play. Elc one looks better, we have the red retro diner one or had turning knobs which were important to us too but no light up stuff. IKEA has no knobs but a light up hob. Both are great and all kids love them, I just prefer the elc one as it looks great. It gets more play here, but more likely because it's in the kitchen. It is bigger though.

PinkDaydreams · 15/09/2019 09:21

I’m so torn as to which one to get. Tempted to wait until the lidl and aldi ones come out and see what they’re like. Decided we do need something smaller as we haven’t got the space for a large one. Also one with dials/knobs will be preferred.

I'd highly recommend the asda kitchen. We got the bigger kitchen a couple of years ago. It's a red and cream version and it still looks great.

HarryPotterFan436 · 15/09/2019 09:59

Ours does have the clicky dials. My son loves them.

PinkDaydreams · 15/09/2019 10:27

The asda one is currently on offer which is why I’m tempted to get it now and put it away for Xmas. Decisions decisions!!
I love the wooden asda tea set too!
