Pregnancy - what will I be missing at Xmas?

It's only September and I'm already distraught at the thought of not having rare roast beef or baked camembert on Christmas day SadWink
I did just check and at least I can still have smoked salmon!
What else will pregnant folks or those on restricted diets be sorry to miss out on this festive season?

You can eat baked Camembert. It just needs to be hot enough. Check the nhs websitez

crazycatbaby · 09/09/2019 14:14

Pate 😭and soft blue cheese

DaisyMay25 · 09/09/2019 14:21

You can have soft cheese if they're cooked through, so enjoy your baked Camembert!

For me it's Brie (I like it cold and just cut massive pieces off) and a snowball, I'm secretly hoping baby comes slightly early!

BeanBag7 · 09/09/2019 14:27

Oh that's good to know, thanks!

Also alcohol of course! I dont drink much but do like a prosecco or a baileys at Christmas

One glass of Prosecco or baileys won’t cause any issue either. Smile

Sweetooth92 · 09/09/2019 14:35

All the pate, fizz & Brie. Plus I was so full of baby I couldn’t eat a full Christmas dinner or the Christmas Eve pub breakfast 💔
This will be Christmas 2 out of 3 I’m pregnant-DS due New Year’s Eve. I’m desperately hoping he’s a little early so I can indulge this Christmas. His brother was due on 30th December & didn’t arrive until jan 10th so not holding out much hope.

Being at my work Christmas party and feeling more and more sober as I watched everyone else getting drunk. Bit of a bummer. I made up for it the year after! 🥳

Pixie2015 · 09/09/2019 18:32

Just enjoy your Christmas and enjoy eating and drinking what you can slowly next year will be very different 😉

hormonesorDHbeingadick · 09/09/2019 19:04

Brie. I was pregnant last year and new born has cmpa so no lovely cheese for me. All the lovely indulgent food contains dairy.

BeanBag7 · 09/09/2019 20:14

@Pixie2015 I have one child already but wasn't pregnant over Christmas last time. She will be 3 this year so will be really fun!

I'll only be 6.5 month pregnant so hoping I wont be too big to enjoy a nice big Christmas dinner!

I had the smoked salmon, and also prawns (those are shellfish but mobile ones - its the ones like mussels stuck in a single location that my GP was concerned about - she reckoned that lobster, crab and prawns were all ok).

Hard cheese, as long as it was pasteurized, was also ok. So I just had to get tasty hard cheeses rather than runny brie or stinky stilton. (I didn't "do" baked soft cheeses then, but would know better now).

Salads from a factory and kept stored properly (chilled) were ok but not from a deli counter - so a pot of M&S coleslaw in its sealed tub to eat at home was ok, to make a nice ham and coleslaw sandwich. But I would not get a ham and coleslaw sandwich from a deli counter in a shop. Similar for mayonnaise etc - pasteurised ok (eg. jar of Hellmanns) but unpasteurised not ok (like homemade salad cream using a raw egg yolk).

No eggs benedict for Christmas morning breakfast because of no runny egg yolks. But a croissant with bacon and grated cheese grilled to bubbling was perfectly fine. As was the OJ, coffee (well, the 1st cup anyway), tea, fresh fruit (just properly washed)….etc.

I had the full Christmas dinner - roast turkey, potatoes, veg, pudding for dessert etc. In fact, as DD had finally dropped, I actually had room for seconds!! (I later realised that this was a BIG mistake as I threw it all up in active labour during the night on 25th!).

mrsed1987 · 11/09/2019 22:13

i was 8 months pregnant last xmas and had some non alcoholic bucks fizz lol

NoWordForFluffy · 11/09/2019 22:46

I was pregnant for two consecutive Christmases! Pate was about all I missed really. I had a drink with DD as I was second trimester, but couldn't with DS as I was still first trimester. Only one, but I enjoyed it.

There's very little you have to avoid really.

hormonesorDHbeingadick · 12/09/2019 09:07

BiddyPop lion stamped runny eggs and silton are fine.

Rachelover60 · 12/09/2019 09:09

...what will I be missing at Xmas?

Mulled wine.

Tobebythesea · 12/09/2019 23:58

I discovered I was pregnant last Christmas in mid December. I’m a massive Christmas fan so I’d started early and had had a mulled wine in November so didn’t feel I’d missed out as much. What I did miss on Christmas Day was smelly blue cheese, pate and alcohol.
