Mince pie for Father Christmas

What age did you do this with your DC? DS will be 2.5 at Christmas and is an only child. I didn't know if he'd understand it this year.

I've generally tried to keep Christmas stuff low key whilst he's not understood what's been going on with the idea I'd step it up as he gets older.

We will probably do it with DD who will be 2 and 9 months at christmas. She might not get it but it wont cause any harm and it means I get an extra mince pie to eat Grin

Erm I did it right from the off with her

funmummy48 · 09/09/2019 07:46

We did it right from the start and our adult children still do it. It's a Christmas ritual. 😉

Probably from about 2. We made the mince pies (ready rolled pastry and jar mincemeat) together first as they like usi g the pastry cutters and spooning the filling in. Ds2 hates mince pies so we do jam tarts at the same time for him. Then they do a plate with one each, carrot sticks for the reindeer and a glass of something, last year they voted for blackcurrant squash as santa must be sick of milk apparently 🤷‍♀️.

From ds first Christmas - he was 3 weeks old.

Still do it now and DC are 24 and 20. It's a family ritual.

Santa always enjoys his cookies and beer at our house haha

Ohflippineck · 09/09/2019 08:06

We’ve always done it, still do even though ours are grown now. Don’t forget the sherry, “he” always drinks that.

DreamingofSunshine · 09/09/2019 08:22

Thanks all. I know we could have done it from the start but DS didn't have the skills at 6 months, he couldn't even sit up Grin

I love the idea of making mince pies together, especially as we have some gluten and dairy free people to cater for.

We did it from first Christmas also. DD didn't have the skills - I did it for her and then took a pic of her next to it holding a carrot for Rudolph which she promptly chewed. It's one of my fave pics from her first Christmas.

Probably from 2, and going on for as long as one of them still believed, and maybe even afterwards.

Plus of course a carrot for the reindeer and a tot of whisky or brandy for FC - not the often- mentioned glass of milk FFS! He needs something to warm him up a bit.

I did it from my sons first Christmas at 10 months, he probably didn’t have a clue but I enjoyed it !
