If dd2 gets a bike, what does dd1 get?

DD2 needs a pedal bike, she's grown out of her balance bike.

DD1 is still fine on her first pedal bike and she's got a scooter that should last ages, it's got an extendable handle and 50kg weight limit.

They're 4yo and 6yo so don't necessarily know what stuff costs.

Cheap 2 wheel scooter? Her current one is 3 wheel (double wheel at front) but you can only ride one at a time and I don't like buying duplicate items.

No technology, screens turn her into the devil child.

These are great, especially as I'm trying to get her outside more!

Alternatively you could get her something crafty, maybe a mini sewing machine, a loom, a hair braiding kit, paint your own XYZ, a girls world head if they’re still a thing.
Have you got room for a trampoline I always wanted one as a kid but we didn’t have a garden! I’m sure she would love it

Football goal
Mud kitchen for summer?

BikeRunSki · 08/09/2019 21:18

Will DD1’s bike still fit next summer?

Bitchfeatures · 08/09/2019 21:18

I second the trampoline, you can pick them up fairly cheap. Asda and Argos often have good deals.
Both of mine love the trampoline, we have had it two years and it still gets used lots, fair enough it's more of summer thing but a thick pair of socks and coat and they will still happily bounce away in winter.

At the risk of sounding unfair, it's always good to teach kids that they need things at different times. So, each will get a bike when they grow out of their other bike, or when they need something else. I know lots of parents who have built a rod for their own back by making sure everything is equal, and it just means they end up buying their kids things they don't really need.

trilbydoll · 08/09/2019 21:26

She doesn't grow very fast and even if she does, they're both May birthdays so she can have a new bike then if she needs one.

I agree they need to learn that they need different things at different times, and I'm not trying to match up the money, but if dd2 has something physically big I think dd1 needs something similarly impressive. Not forever, but she's only 6, I think we've got a few more years before she can be reasonable.

I know we could just get a bike not as a Christmas present, but I'm also trying to reinforce that we don't just buy stuff at random otherwise the house would be full!

At 6yo I would definitely get a 2 wheel scooter. They are much faster and more manuverable, and will see her through a good few years.

I'd honestly just find out something that she wants and get her that, rather than try and get her something 'similar' if that makes sense?
My two are older than yours, and I was testing the water the other day with bikes. My eldest needs a new one, the youngest has her old one. My eldest told me she doesn't want a bike (prefers a skateboard), so I asked youngest if she'd rather have a new one, and she said she was happy with her sisters' cast offs!
Plus, if you get them totally different gifts, they can swap/share :) maybe.

user1573624 · 09/09/2019 23:07

They really don't have to coordinate. It won't even cross their mind the value of items. My 3 have never compared amount or size of their gifts. If you really think they will, try to match in size rather than price. Kids care more about size. So a pop up play tent or one of those cardboard colour in castles that come in a giant box.

Dolls House?

CoolWivesClub2019 · 12/09/2019 19:19

One of these op? They’re a bit more ‘impressive’ looking than a normal scooter. Mine have one and it has been really well used for a number of years!
