There are so many versions out now - which one is the best one?

... and can anyone recommend any other Christmas books too? We love How Santa Works, Santa Needs a Wee, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas and The Jolly Christmas Postman - would love some new ideas!

My Gdcs (3 and 4 now) loved the Usborne pop up one last year, and I dare say will again this year. Very bright and jolly.

I also love Room For A Little One (in the stable) which has the most beautiful full page illustrations of all the animals. (Can't get that pic any bigger.)

The Robert Sabuda version is treasured in our house. It isn't cheap but if you stash it in a few shopping baskets an offer will usually appear eventually and it's a great investment, our copy is approaching its 8th Christmas. (Preview vid .) Having so many of the pop-ups in white makes it really festive and extra magical!

The Robert Sabuda one is my favourite too. Only allowed to read it with an adult which makes it extra special.

Thank you all x

What do you mean by different versions? Is the text the same but it's just the pictures that are different?

There are a few Mr Men books for the Christmas season- Mr Christmas lives at 1 pole and Lil Miss Christmas lives at the other pole (I can’t remember which is which - but I seem to recall a flying teapot), and there are a few more Mr Men versions of pantomime type ones too.

Thomas the Tank Engine also helps out Santa in 1 edition.

We have an Usborne book of 3 stories of Christmas (1 has an elf creating a machine to make toys and they all start to turn out the same).

The ones that there is a duck on every page - publisher - we have a couple of wintery ones from them. Sheep getting lost on a hillside type of thing.

A couple of Christmas and winter anthologies- collections of poems, songs, short stories and extracts from longer books (like Santa appearing in Narnia) all together.

If you go to a good bookshop from October onwards, maybe more into November, there will likely be a table of seasonal offerings. I built my collection over a good few years, mostly bookshops but the odd few from school fair book stalls and charity shops, and a few presents DD got from others also. That way it’s nice to have a few smaller baby books that are favorites coming out again while having something newer and more geared to their current age to enjoy too.

We have the m&s one, not particularly special but nice enough! We read it every Christmas Eve curled up by the fire & tree as tradition.

Twas the night before Christmas £4.99

We've got this one. It's really lovely, there's glitter and lift the flap pages.

DreamingofSunshine · 17/09/2019 13:47

@DadCanIHaveAZedgie thank you, just ordered it for DS Smile

Stompythedinosaur · 17/09/2019 13:49

Another vote for the Robert Salbuda one, it is magical!

BanginHeadache · 17/09/2019 14:54

We have the Robert Ingpen illustrated book. It is beautiful, I will never tired of reading it and looking at the illustrations.

We have the Robert Ingpen too - I love it , there's something very mysterious about it..

Courtney555 · 17/09/2019 18:51

The Robert Sabuda is just beautiful, a real piece of origami art. You have to read with an adult as the pop ups are so intricate, a child could break. Ours has been out every year for the last 8 years. DS who is too cool for school still loves it.

HermioneWeasley · 17/09/2019 20:03

Another house with a long treasured copy of the Robert Sabuda one. It’s stunning

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 17/09/2019 20:04

Arthur Rackham illustrations - beautiful

torthecatlady · 21/09/2019 23:01

Dss actually chose that book to be read to him this evening! Hmm
Ours is just a cheap one from the works which was £1 I think.
