Wooden block set for older kids?

Hi

I’ve seen a wooden block set for older kids with more than the basic shapes. For example, pyramids, pillars, spheres etc. I can’t remember the name of them, can anyone help?

Thanks

Haba blocks? Lovely sets

I got some from Sainsbury’s earlier this year. Also some nice Janod ones from France (not sure if they’re stocked here?)

Myriad Toys has very nice, quite expensive ones - like these -

What age are you looking for?

My DS (nearly 6), builds with anything and everything. I'll follow this thread in case a good option comes up for this year.

Thank you, they seem similar to
Haba but had a bigger selection and were perhaps more intricate if I’m remembering rightly.

Grimms do some amazing sets, such as the 1001 nights set. They cost a fortune though, and I can’t personally comment on how good they are in person.

Grimms toys are expensive, I agree, but tactile and lovely to handle .

I bought smallest gc the rainbow last year and it’s had a lot of use from all 3. Bridges , animal pens, car routes, doll’s rocking cradles , a very open ended toy .
I have just bought the stacking bowls to put on the new baby’s shelf, they are so pretty.

The bricks look amazing and because they are dyed rather than painted build easily with less slipping .

I think I want them !

Lanka Kade do good value (iirc they're fair trade too) building blocks - we have a castle set that has the shapes you mentioned, plus door archways, doors, stairs and turrets.

Oh lordy, I think I know what you mean - it's probably Ostheimer - utterly gorgeous but you better remortgage because its eye-wateringly expensive.
