Stocking fillers

DS will be almost 9 and 3.

My standards for stockings are chocolate, sweets, socks and some daft novelty toys. I used to put a toy car in but the oldest seems a bit beyond that.

Give me your best ideas, please?

so I always add a soft toy to the top that isnt wrapped up so they have something they can play with before coming into our bed to open stockings.
I always add a tangerine/satsuma type thing
novelty flannel that expands in water
for the 3 year old I would add some bath duck type things
individual hot chocolate sachet (something you would normally say no to)
funky pen/pencil
ooh and go to the polish section of your local supermarket and get a chocolate bar with very foreign language on to reaffirm that Santa has bought it
hawkins bazaar have funky things the 9 year old should still like.
Oh and I have in the past rolled up a beano and wrapped it up into long sausage shape.
match attack cards (or similar)

StrumpersPlunkett · 31/08/2019 18:47

I am finding it hard to think of things for a 13&15 year old.
a wrapped up costa voucher doesn't take up much space!

StrumpersPlunkett · 31/08/2019 18:48

just remembered I put a jar of milkyway chocolate spread in one year as they had been nagging about it and I have always said no.

EdtheBear · 31/08/2019 18:53

Oh thanks for the rolled up comic idea, genius!
If fact a magazine rolled up would work for most ages.

I've trying to cut down on tat that either ends up as clutter or in the bin, which I have to say is making it doubly hard. But I'll have a look in Hawkins see if I see anything.

Boy or girl Strumpers?

We are past the age where stockings need to be an early morning distraction and are now into them being a place to get useful items and maybe more luxurious versions of their everyday stuff.

My 12 yo DS is likely to be getting:

Pants and socks (used to be character ones when they were little but now grown up ones)
Star Wars Pencils
A PS4 voucher
Personalised Nutella (label from eBay stuck on a supermarket jar)
A football magazine
A skin for his game controller
A chocolate Santa
A bath bomb shaped like a game controller (Etsy)
I'm also on the lookout for some sort of 'must have' grooming stuff but I haven't got a clue about that.

Last year he had a novelty power bank (shaped like the poo emoji) that went down well.

His older sisters (20+) will get undies and socks, makeup, pencils themed to their favourite shows, tissue mask, coffee syrup, a magazine and chocolate. I've already got them mini nail files and compact mirrors from the Rex London sale.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 31/08/2019 19:30

Last year the biggest hit in the stockings were toiletry bags.. the little drawstring type. They've used them on every holiday/sleepover/trip to see grandparents/Cub camp etc.

dementedma · 31/08/2019 19:45

I got some great stuff for older kids/adults from the Rex London sale.

Allthebubbles · 31/08/2019 20:05

Mini cans of sprite went down well with my three.

Toomanycats99 · 31/08/2019 20:13

Nearer Xmas Lidl do square of chocolate on sticks that you put in hot milk to make hot chocolate.

StrumpersPlunkett · 31/08/2019 20:58

Thanks. Off to research the skins for games controller I didn’t know they existed!!!

Meltedicicle · 31/08/2019 21:08

On the Christmas bargains thread someone mentioned that hawkins bazaar do pre filled stockings. I had a look and they look quite good. I have 2 girls 8 and 11 and managed to get last year’s 8 plus girls’ stockings reduced. Lots of decent bits in there. They do Star Wars themed ones etc too! Good for inspo even if you don’t buy them.

Tiggles · 31/08/2019 21:28

@strumpersPlunkett we always had a soft toy on the top. As a old teen when we got step siblings and they didn't have one it was the first Christmas I realised that was a family thing rather than something everyone did! Grin
It was always the lead up talk to Christmas what animal would we get this year, so continued it with my boys.

AnnieSaxophone · 31/08/2019 21:53

Our stockings stretch loads, so I have to find big, cheap and not tat things. It’s difficult!
I always put comics, funky shower gel from Superdrug (doughnut and candy floss or something), and a pair of summer weight short pjs that they need gets rolled up and put in too.

ysmaem · 31/08/2019 21:58

I read a post from someone who puts a magazine in the stocking and thought it was a fab idea and have started doing it.
I put colognes in for my boys now they're older (8 and 7), they also get a water bottle and toothbrush.

Bubbletrouble43 · 31/08/2019 22:03

Always a diary/ journal , a book, some stationary or drawing stuff and a cd ( back in the day, she's 22 now!) to listen to. I suppose now a playlist could go on a usb stick or something.

Trumpton · 01/09/2019 05:08

If you put chocolate spread in then LABELS are fun . My ( grown up ) girls loved them .

Oh yeah... and
Chocolate spread - special ones like crunchie that I won’t buy usually!
Bottle of lager for eldest / coke for youngest

PandaG · 02/09/2019 09:05

Always toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, shower gel or soap, pants, socks, tights, hair bubbles - all character themes when little - mum wouldn't buy character pants but father Christmas did - and now slightly more luxurious versions of the supermarket ones I would usually buy (university student appreciated being restocked with toiletries). All the above I would buy anyway, but slightly better and put in stocking to pad it out!
Tub of hot choc powder, bar of choc, large tube of sweets. Beer/cider (DC are 17 and 19 now).
Notebook, ballet tights, lipstick DD, bike inner tube, bike gadget, bottle of Henderson's relish to take back to university DS.
Basically useful stuff, and a few little treats.
