Boxing day food - celebrating Christmas with DSD

For Christmas Day it's just DP and I. We normally go to church (if we skipped midnight mass) and then go for a walk with some Turkey and cranberry sandwiches, pigs in blankets, Christmas themed crisps etc. We have DSD on boxing day and celebrate her Christmas with her then. She'll be 8 this year. Any suggestions on what to do for food? Normally pick up is around 9 am, she comes here and we do presents and cards. Would be good to try and get out and about a bit weather dependent too. I don't want to spend all day in the kitchen but would like to have something Christmasy. I honestly can't remember what we've done for food in previous years.

Christmas dinner is the obvious choice no? Unless dietary/religious/irrational hatred of turkey dinner is a problem?

Not sure why you're worried about this in August though!!

Pigs in blankets, Yorkshire pudding, stuffing and veg? ie all the good bits!!!
Roast ham?
Her favourite meal, however unseasonal?

I would have thought she would have already had Christmas dinner so how about a cheese and biscuits type of buffet. You could do some sausage rolls and salads alongside the cheese. Easy to pack up if you go out, too.

Ask DSD and see what she prefers.

DD likes to have two Christmas dinners, her dad does a small one for just the two of them, I think he uses turkey breast slices instead of cooking the whole turkey, some roasties, Yorkshire puds and pigs in blankets. We always move our Christmas Day to whenever she is with us and it is a bigger occasion as there are a lot more of us.

If I was in that situation thought I wouldn’t have wanted two Christmas dinners and would have preferred a cold buffet dinner perhaps as a picnic out and about.

Christmas party food type buffet. Easy to prepare you won’t spend all day in the kitchen. Mist supermarkets do an ‘it all cooks at the same temp’ range so you don’t even need to faff with the oven.

Make some turkey croquettes.

Turkey meat finely chopped and stirred into a thick creamy white sauce. Make balls dip in egg and roll in bread crumbs and fry.
Big thick cut chips and a bowl of roasted carrots and parsnips.
Lots of dips.
Yummm.

Then make a chocolate banana cake served with a big dollop of vanilla ice cream.

What are her favourite kinds of meals at present?

Ask her Xmas Grin

She might love two Christmas Dinners . You can do a lot of the prep the day before .
If your Christmas Day is low key then you won't be faced with two huge meals to cook and eat .
Our Boxing Day Tradition is pizza , I put the dough on to mix and prove in the morning , so by 6pm it has slow risen to perfection. We all take a piece , shape it , top it , bake it , eat it .

DS would lead a Mutiny if this changed Xmas Grin
