What do you put in toddlers stockings?

I have no idea what to put in DD's stocking. Won't be buying it now but need ideas because I don't want to buy her useless junk that gets broken/chucked within two minutes. Any ideas?

Obviously age dependant but I tended to put things they needed anyway, still do and they are at university. New toothbrush, socks, bubble bath, crayons, mini colouring/puzzle books (ideal for taking out in your bag), small toy. Don't go overboard, after unwrapping 5 or 6 presents they just want to get on with playing, it's not that I spent less on mine but I didn't wait until Christmas or birthdays to buy things (their birthdays are also winter. Christmas presents until they are 4 or 5 are more about you, they prefer the wrapping paper

Drink maybe? Can of something that is a treat in your house. This can buy time before someone has to get in the kitchen to do proper food and drinks..

Younger toddler or older toddler? My DC2 will be nearly 3 at xmas, so just about a toddler! She'll be getting animal shaped crayons, plasticine, hair clips, hair bands, bubbles, stickers, slime and a tiny colouring book if I can find one small enough to fit! Plus some chocolate and an orange. Grin

Chocolate coins
Tub of Playdoh
Socks
Singing soap
Bubbles
Sticker/activity book (really cheap from the Range)
Chunky crayons

A carton of drink and a brioch or similar so they have something to eat and drink to give you a bit of peace to get organised before going down to see if Santa has been!

Definitely stuff they will use throughout the year, doesn't need to be tat. Little wooden cars, new toothbrush, socks, little purse, book, rubber duck, hat/gloves.

randomusername · 19/08/2019 18:44

before going down to see if Santa has been

Who do you do the stockings from then? We do stockings 'from' Santa and everything else is from family and friends. Do you do it so stockings are from you? Just curious 😊

WaxOnFeckOff · 19/08/2019 18:47

Ha ha, a flaw in the plan :o. We always do stockings from Santa, and then most of downstairs stuff is also from Santa - I think DC were a bit older before we suddenly realised that they thought we never bought them anything. They got very few gifts from other people, mostly a card with money rather a gift. DC are 19 and 18 now though so we just have all gifts downstairs.

satsuma, everyone gets one In our family stocking. And the biggest shiny red apple I can find when the recipient is old enough. Stockings are always my favourite presents to do.

Stompythedinosaur · 19/08/2019 20:09

We always did bath toys, small musical instruments (egg shakers, hand bells or a guiro maybe), art supplies like crayons or felt tips, bubbles, box of raisins, choc coins, small cuddly toy, and one of those sets of mini books.

Flannels
Brio train (expensive but adored)
Small Duplo or Lego set

Plastic plate and cup (or whatever you need)

mytvwatchesyou · 02/09/2019 02:41

Oh this is useful thank you! I've been scouring the Christmas topic for little ones to try and get organised, I'll have a 2.5 year old and a 16 month old to buy for and hoping they will be a little more interested in things this year rather than the chaotic baby stage we were at last year.

This will be our first year of doing proper stockings too so I'm very excited!
