Decorations for Café

I opened a café earlier this year and have been thinking recently about how to decorate it for Christmas. As this is the first year I've got no existing decorations so will be starting from scratch. I've set up a Pinterest board but am struggling to find much inspiration! I get a lot of Christmas tree ideas but this isn't what I want as I don't think there's space for a tree!

So, two questions really:
Can you suggest search terms, insta/fb accounts, websites etc where I can look for ideas for commercial Christmas decorations?
Where can I look to buy decorations on a modest budget?

If it helps, I'm looking for a green/gold/white/wooden theme as red will clash horribly with the current decor!

If you look on Pinterest for teacher/classroom decorations you'll find loads of ideas for every season. Classrooms don't tend to have much floor space. I don't have a picture but one year I strung string across the ceiling (used tinsel to cover the string) and had giant baubles from Costco dangling down. Then fairy light sets on each table wrapped round the stands for pencils 😀 it looked really lovely.

A local pub in my town put up a long chunky fir garland decorated with baubles and stuff on a large beam. It meant it could still be seen by all the customers and not get knocked over. They also had fairy lights strung around.

You can get half Christmas trees to hang on walls as well, if you fancy that as a space saving idea.

My sister decorated her dining room walls for a recent celebration in warm fairy lights & gold discs. It looked lovely and cost £40 from Amazon for all the decorations. The fairy light curtains on the wall provided another light source & looked lovely when switched on by themselves.

If you're doing special Christmas afternoon teas then fairy lights on the walls & holly/fir table arrangements would look good.

Thanks so much for these ideas! I'll have a look for half Christmas trees although I'm not sure where it would go! We've got a fake bay tree that I was going to decorate instead!

My sister bought these from Amazon:

star garland

waterfall fairylight curtain

I'd keep it simple. Lots of clear fairy lights would look really pretty.

Whitecandle · 25/08/2019 08:14

I agree with @KitKat1985 lots and lots of twinkly fairy lights.

Stick to the natural type decor with wood/snow rather than brash colours as they can look cheap.

It will be gorgeous!!

Thanks all, and sorry for the delay, I couldn't log in for a few days! Will focus on lights for now then and get it as twinkly as possible! StarStarStar

As you are a cafe is there any chance you could go with a gingerbread house theme? Gisela Graham made lovely ones that lit up last year although they had red doors and decorations. Perhaps you could make your own? Also hanging Christmas cookie cutters with tartan ribbon looks lovely. The benefit of gingerbread would be the smell as well - that or cinnamon etc. There are also some lovely posters on Etsy about Mrs Claus’ bakery. Again I think the wrong colour but another idea. You can also get trees as decals. Just google on eBay.

This is the Mrs Claus sign I was thinking of.
Also some Gisela Graham gingerbread decorations which are plain here

I have a cafe ,
I hang dried orange slices on fishing wire at the windows , with cookie cutters ( bought from TK Maxx ) hanging there too

Fairy lights round the dresser , vases on the tables with holly and ivy in them ( though ivy is poisonous, so be careful )

I make a wreath for the front door

Baubles , again on fishing line , hanging from random beams , and pine cones sprayed silver hanging as well

Picked up some sea shells on the beach one year , sprayed them silver and put them on the tables and in bowls , they looked stunning

Not sure how big your space is but wilkos has some beautiful Christmas decorations every year!

I love the Christmas lights that ate on delicate copper wire, they're so pretty and will go nicely with your wood theme

KronksSpinachPuffs · 05/09/2019 21:17

As a pp poster said, a wreath on the door would be beautiful! Especially a more modern or rustic one rather than a holly one.

This is the ( very bad photo ) of the one I made last Christmas
