Thinking of ditching Christmas dinner?

This year by a stroke of luck we’re not hosting anyone else for Xmas dinner so it’ll be just me, dh and the 2 dc’s. Ds is a grazer and will not look in the direction of a big meal (any meal actually lol)

I’ve never been that fussed on Xmas dinner 🙈 it’s always such a fuss prepping and cooking on the day, time being taken away from what I want to be doing which is playing with the dc and drinking Christmas cocktails lol. We always eat far too much and are bloated and sleepy by 5pm which is usually when a lot of our friends/family like to have get togethers.
So this year I’ve been thinking of making a lovely breakfast, then for dinner serving fondue, crudités and crusty bread etc and a really gorgeous dessert which we never usually get to eat 🤣
Anyone else do this or thinking about doing it? I’ll definitely do a mini Xmas roast the week or so before so dh and dd don’t miss out, but the more I think about it the more I’m sure it’ll be bliss to not have to cook on the day!

We be been rethinking my Christmas lunch too, but for a different reason. I've always done a traditional Christmas turkey, but in our usual group of 9, there are now 4 vegetarians, including one who is almost 100% vegan. Last year there were only 2 vegetarians, and the year before that only one, so the balance is definitely tipping.

I haven't decided yet what to do this year, but will probably stick with the turkey and up my game on the vegetarian alternative.

We cant been arsed either.

We love a duck. Last year we bought a whole one and it was terrible. This year the plan is to buy two of those Gressingham duck with pancake things and just go to town with a accompaniments. I’m already salivating 🤭

We had a buffet of all the foods we love last year as it was just the three of us. Put them out at lunchtime and then just grazed all day. Was fab!

If you need less turkey, why not a crown or a breast? I do that for Thanksgiving dinner as its always a midweek after work "quick roast" and it tastes good. Its still a proper turkey dinner, and can make proper gravy and roast potatoes to go with it, but be eating within about 90 minutes of walking in the door from the office.

Yes i got fed up of cooking all day or having to be at MILs on Xmas day so last year we had a big family dinner on Xmas eve at our house then did sweet fa on Xmas day (stayed in our pjs, watching films and eating cheese and biscuits all day long). Doing the same this year as i preferred it. I love the lead up to Xmas but the day itself is pretty crap usually.

For the last few years we have done the traditional Christmas meal on Christmas Eve at tea time. I get to cook without stress and don't miss anything. We tidy up on the evening then slump in our chairs and wake up to a fridge full of leftovers (my favourites) on Christmas Day. I love spending all morning with the pressies and some nice treats without stressing about the turkey or being ready for guests. It's fab.

God, I wish I could do this. I hate roast dinners - always have. I would rather have an Old El Paso kit for Christmas day. Alas, kids and husband wont let me :(

I've cooked a Christmas roast twice in my life, that's enough.

We do pancakes for breakfast, homemade soup with bread for lunch, then something along the lines of saltimbocca for a bigger cooked meal around 6-7pm.

We have a dog to walk, so we eataround the dog Grin plus it's nice to eat dinner in the dark. It also gives us loads of playing time and chill out.

We don't host, did twice, both disasters. We'll do hot chocolate and panettone at our house some time between Xmas and New year's for family.

We have the most stress-free, relaxed Christmas. There are three of us plus dog.
