How much do you spend on each child?

I have five DC. At Christmas they'll be 11, 8, 7, 3 and nearly 6 months.

Just wondering how much people spend? Thanks :)

I have seven , spend approx £250 each but that includes stockings and Xmas Eve pjs.
When a baby maybe £50-£80 but stuff they need eg developmental toys and outfits.

reefedsail · 28/07/2019 20:40

We only have one child, so about £500.

wilberforce2 · 28/07/2019 20:42

I have an almost 11 year old and a 5 year old and I never spend the same amount on them. The 10 year old wants football kits and Xbox games which cost a fortune, last year I think we spent about £300 on him and maybe £150/£200 on the 5 year old. I'm not one to buy them stuff throughout the year though so they get the bulk of their stuff at Christmas and then we normally do a day out or something for their birthdays.

Morgan12 · 28/07/2019 20:42

I'll probably spend around £600 on my 6 year old and £250 on my 1 year old.

Happyspud · 28/07/2019 20:43

I’ve 4. All under 6 so until now I’ve typically spend about £20-80 on each, the baby just getting cheap things. I’d spend £500 if they needed something but they’re kids. Honestly a £1 item can sometimes be the biggest hit, so I just spend what I need to for them to feel special that day. It really doesn’t cost much to do that.

BirthdayKake · 28/07/2019 20:44

Ah ok we don't have stockings.

I usually spend around £100 each but this year we have a little extra money so I'm tempted to spend more. Don't want to set an unrealistic precedent though!

How is it having 7, @MyDcAreMarvel?! My baby is only three weeks old but I don't feel done!

I have two kids. (7 and 4)
They each get: a big present from Santa, a big present from me and a stocking.
Last year I spent approx £100 each.
BUT: They have a lot of relatives buying for them. And I have to buy for a lot of relatives to reciprocate.
If we had a smaller extended family I could see myself spending much more.

Pipandmum · 28/07/2019 20:54

I think I spend about £200-£300 on each. But this year big Xmas trip plus a weekend skiing - though they don’t consider that a present as such but it limits what I might have spent if we weren’t going anywhere. On top of that I buy for my siblings, sister’s daughter and in laws and one cousin if I’m seeing them. Don’t buy for anyone else.

Fundays12 · 28/07/2019 20:55

It varies but last year ds1 was nearly 7 and desperate for a Nintendo switch so we spent £450 all in on him between games etc for it plus a few other bits like Lego. Ds2 has just turned 2 so only spent £130 on him as his toys were much cheaper. This Christmas we will also have ds3 who is a baby so he will get about £50 spent. The other 2 older ones maybe £150 to £200 each.

BakewellGin1 · 28/07/2019 20:56

I'll take a guess for this year and say baby about £150 (inc clothes etc he needs anyway)
DS10 probably £500 (inc clothes, coat, trainers, footy boots)

ColouringPencils · 28/07/2019 21:02

Two children aged 12 & 9. Presents from us up to about £80, plus stockings. Eg a main item of about £40, a top or something else to wear of about £20, a book £10, pyjamas £10. Sometimes might get a family present too, eg a game for us all to play. This year the main gift was tickets to something after Christmas, which did end up costing quite a bit more as we made a day of it. I felt a bit weird about that as it looked like they had a lot less than their cousins on the day. We do have plenty of family to receive gifts from too. They really appreciate what they are given.

notso · 28/07/2019 21:04

Depends on what we're buying them and their ages. Last year DD and DS2 got big gifts, MacBook and Nintendo Switch.
This year DS1 and DS3 will probably get something more speedy.

ColouringPencils · 28/07/2019 21:04

Reading that lots of you spend it on games consoles. I guess my DS is lucky as my husband also plays, so none of those have had to be his presents yet (just DH's gifts to himself Hmm)

pastaparadise · 28/07/2019 21:10

I think last year we spent about 100 each on 4 and 2 year olds. Quite a lot was second hand which helped. Will aim for similar this year, and until i cant get away with second hand anymore!

MyDcAreMarvel · 28/07/2019 21:24

I love my big family op, am pregnant with number 8. I found after I got to four the others just slotted in it didn’t seem any harder work.

ShowOfHands · 28/07/2019 21:29

Between 50 and 100 pounds. Two dc aged 7 and 12. Last year for example, 7yo had a lego set, books, colouring stuff and slippers and pyjamas. Plus a stocking and a selection box.

PyjamasForever · 28/07/2019 21:36

Probably about £100-£150 on DS who is 3 which will be stocking, PJs, dressing gown, some clothes and his "big present" and around £50-80 on newborn DD but most of that will be clothes she would need anyway (but can't really not do a stocking for her as DS would notice Santa didn't visit her).

BirthdayKake · 28/07/2019 21:36

Thanks everyone!

@MyDcAreMarvel congratulations! I love it too. Also finding that with no. 5 but it could be because she's not running around yet!

Probably up to about £100 to include a main gift, book and stocking.

Chilledout11 · 29/07/2019 09:41

Mine are under 5 and I spend about 100. Agree it's the little bits and pieces they like the most. I have already put away fillers from pound shops (hot wheel cars science sets from the Works etc) so plenty to keep me going.

banskuwansku · 29/07/2019 18:47

So far we have spent £110 for ds9 presents. I bought him three reduced,-50%, price Lego sets. For dd7 I have spent £50. Couple of reduced price Lego sets and some big collectibles.

Fairenuff · 29/07/2019 18:54

£1000 all in for all kids

So in your instance it would work out to £200 a head.

But I think that's generous as we don't do much the rest of the year except for birthdays.

Jupiter13 · 29/07/2019 19:06

About £20 on each child... anymore is extravagant..😁

sideorderofchips · 29/07/2019 19:17

@mydcaremarvel

I’ve got a friend in the same position! My three are enough of a handful lol

MondeoFan · 29/07/2019 19:23

Eldest £500
Youngest £300
But I always say it depends what they wanted. If oldest wanted a phone for example I wouldn't just buy that so I'd have to spend more realistically
