Christmas and Birthday Ideas for DD2

DD2 will be 2 at the end of October so looking for ideas for both her birthday and Christmas. Wanting to get a few things now just to spread the cost of Christmas out a bit. Things that will keep her interest would be good. I've got her a scooter that was on sale but that's it so far.

Bits to go with the scooter (helmet/ bell)?
Duplo, the easier orchard farm games, train set and busy books were all popular with mine at that age. Remember that they’re likely to get loads from other people too though so I don’t buy mine loads myself as family are always asking what they want.

Take a bit of advice and don't go overboard, seriously they enjoy the packaging as much as the toys. At 2 toys that are open ended and encourage imagination are important - so hit second hand shops, plastic toys are easily cleaned and sterilised, and it's environmentally good to buy secondhand! Otherwise crayons, colouring books etc are always good. My DD's had a wooden railway they loved, the supermarkets often have good priced generic ones once the garden toys have finished for the year - why not put money aside each week rather than actually buying things early?

Good point about the helmet.

We have duplo. Love the Orchard games but we have mostly the older ones so that would be something to look at for younger games.

Might look at getting a night light for her room as current one is broken.

I am putting money away but that's more for DD1 who will be 6 and most likely will know what she would like nearer the time

Some great ideas there. Our granddaughter was 2 1/2 last year and she loved mellissa and Doug take along stable (£20) and melissa and Doug horse play mat (£20), quality toys and can be stored away. We keep them for when she stays over and she always asks to go to grandmas to see the horses. I'll be adding the farm, some schleich animals and a tractor or horse trailer for this Christmas and I can see it being played with for many more years to come. Her mum and dad bought her the mellisa and Doug take along garage (£20) its wooden and it fits hot wheels/match box cars, it's small for storage but packed with features and the matching car play rug (£20) which rolls up to put away and is fab quality. She also plays with her peppas and dinosaurs on it, it's been fab for her imagination but not too expensive.

George Asda wooden castle and figures set is £32 at moment. I bought it for my niece last year and it was a big hit and another toy great for imagination. Add a few animals, dinosaurs and other characters and it's a toy that will be enjoyed for years.

My DD is 3 now but things she has loved since 2 and still does include

  • her toy kitchen plus she has a few Melissa a doug things that go with it (smoothie maker, mixer, baking tray and discuits, pizza set - the smoothie maker is definitely the favourite)
  • duplo, especially some of the Disney sets. Minnie mouse boutique and cars mater are the favourites
  • floor puzzles
  • lottie dolls
  • dolls House. It's just the asda one with some extra furniture and people from aldi

-farm set with schleich animals and the Melissa and doug carry along stables

  • her dolls pram
  • dress up clothes, especially loves fairy and pirate outfits
  • playdough

Sounds Alot but these are the toys that get played with the most (every day / every other day)

She's also a big fan of baths so loves new bath toys oh and a bubble machine

Thank you all.

So far I have a floor puzzle, scooter and a toy till.

We have toy kitchen ad dolls house for DD1 so maybe I could just add a few other bits to those - paly food, accessories etc

2 is the best age for presents because they don't have strong character/tat preferences yet. At 2 mine have loved wooden train set, play food (none of them interested in the toy kitchen though), dolls pram, Boon bath pipes, Tomy bath rocket, Lanka Kade London bus, lots of Orchard Toys puzzles, Melissa and Doug latches board, lots of books (particularly sound or pull tab Busy Books), Grimm's rainbow, Tomy Aqua draw, kinetic sand, Crayola super washable pens, and those card stacking nesting blocks.
