Has anyone bought an American girl doll before? Are they worth the money?

I bought one for DD and she is lovely - very pretty. But you can get similar ones in the UK for less money

I have two non-AG (the Walmart ones I think) and one authentic AG doll. It is superior!

Also a 6 foot tall doll house..

no, but we have the design a friend ones from Argos and the quality and presentation are amazing, and fairly in expensive. I've just had a sneak peak at the new collection due from autumn/winter 2019 collection and there are some fab new dolls, outfits and vehicles, though prob best to wait for 3 for 2 before buying. I prefer there faces to the our generation dolls. I've only ever seen the American girl dolls on line, but defo for an older child who takes care of there dolls well.

There are also "My London Girl" dolls too. Yes, they are superior but it's entirely up to you whether to splash the cash. I wouldn't have got more than one for my DD though. As a PP mentioned Argos "Designer Friend" dolls are superb especially for the price, also come packaged/presented beautifully- but not quite the same as the "My London Girl".

We have the argos version here, it isn't as high quality as the AG one but it is lovely.

I bought one - cost £80 in English money but then £20 import costs and £20 tax -£120 total. They’re really worth it! I delayed too long and dd outgrew it the following year. I kept the box and book that came with it safe and sold on eBay for £100. 😂They’re on high demand in uk so you’d have no problem reselling down the line

My youngest wanted an American Girl. As PP said I bought her and her sister a design a friend doll. These tend to have plain clothes and no accessories however you can buy more clothes to fit on eBay. Smiths do their own our generation version. They are fancier than the daf. Worth a try x

We went through this..... I got the Grandparents to get it 😂 that said Leah is very pretty and is distinctly superior looking in terms of the UK versions..... Has now been passed down to youngest daughter and she plays with it loads along with the others we have but Leah is always treated differently 🤷‍♀️

We have 3 Design a Friends from Argos. My 6 year old loves them... possibly more than she loves me. When they have sales on you can get the clothes well reduced.

We have the UK version - my generation. The doll is lovely, nice outfit and the hair is amazing - feels like real hair. We have one with extra long hair and I secretly love brushing it and plaiting it!

I was talked into buying 2 AG dolls for my granddaughters earlier this year. The price was eye watering, both the dolls and the outfits.
In the shop there were grown women working in the dolls hairdressing department doing dolls hair (appointments have to be made in advance) and my granddaughters want me to book us all in for afternoon tea with their dolls on my next visit after the dolls have their nails done in the beauty salon.
One cute thing........in each toilet cubicle in the store there is a "doll holder".

Sorry OP that is not answering your question. Are they worth it? Well they're lovely, but at 400 dollars for two dolls with a change of clothes I'm still in shock!

Newjobnewstart · 22/08/2019 17:41

We went for the afternoon tea and i must say the food was amazing service brill. Was a great exp for my lg expensive but she loved it x

Abouttime1978 · 24/08/2019 14:48

We were given one from a family friend, whose daughter had outgrown them.

It's the most played with toy and she really is great quality.

I'd buy them on eBay - I bid on one for my younger daughter - it went for £55 so much better than shipping one from the states x
