Would I be okay to have a glass of Buck's Fizz and it not affect my milk?

Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas!

Yes it's fine. There's a lot of evidence that as long as you aren't too pissed to hold the baby it's fine to breastfeed.

Isittimeforbed · 24/12/2018 20:00

Completely fine. More than one would also be fine.

HermioneWeasley · 24/12/2018 20:47

Best time to have a drink is when you’re actually feeding - the milk the baby is drinking has already been made and then it’s the longest gap until the next feed.

ButterflyWitch · 24/12/2018 20:48

Absolutely fine. Enjoy!

HotInWinter · 24/12/2018 20:49

Yep. Rule of thumb - if you'd be Ok to drive, your ok to feed.

Wenttoseainasieve · 24/12/2018 20:56

I remember reading that if you drank so much your blood alcohol reached fatal levels, your milk would still only be about as alcoholic as orange juice.

KonaMum · 24/12/2018 21:05

If you’re sober enough to hold your baby, you’re sober enough to breastfeed them. Breast milk is made from your blood, a blood alcohol level of even 0.5% (the alcohol percentage of a weak shandy) would be fatal and yet your blood and therefor milk would be hardly alcoholic at all.

Hohocabbage · 24/12/2018 21:13

I don’t agree with the rule of thumb, especially with Scottish drink driving laws (can’t drink anything and drive).

welshweasel · 24/12/2018 21:17

Fill your boots - the only risk to your baby of you getting pissed is dropping them!

pastabest · 24/12/2018 21:24

It's fine to drink alcohol and breastfeed where on earth did you get the idea it wasn't?

It's not a good idea to drink alcohol and cosleep though.

Definitely fine
