Gifts from us and Santa with different wrapping paper?

Hi. I've just read a post about the mum not being happy that the dad used the wrong paper to wrap their sons presents.

I have never done this. My parents didn't either.

My eldest is 8 and this is the first time she's questioned anything about Santa.

In past years I've said all the gifts are from Santa. This year I've said some are from us. The first thing they may ask is why Santa's gifts are wrapped the same. What reason can I give?

I don't want to spoil it for my 6 year old.

I have about 4 rolls of low quality paper - adding a new roll each year as we start running out of the old ones - of the type we would never use (e.g some pink on with unicorns got added this year) under the tree for santa to use. Just as mum did for me. My friend found out about Santa through the same paper being used.

I've always told mine that we wrap and send presents to Santa then he keeps them until Christmas eve when he delivers them. His elves make some of the presents - they are often wooden lol that's the clue! And actually all the pictures of Santa's workshop show wooden toys. It's all rather far fetched I know but the children never questioned it.

I always do separate paper. For stocking fillers from santa I buy the sheets from wilko. Everything else is whatever I got in sales.. Altho this year when I wrapped I forgot to get tags out the loft. So I did a certain color paper each.. Much easier.

This year I got different paper and hid it away so that we are not rumbled....

I've done my youngest presents in pink wrapping paper and oldest in red. I really wish I'd used 2 other types. I've got enough 🙈

Father Christmas only brings stocking presents in our family and they have never been wrapped.

jessstan2 · 25/12/2018 12:33

Eight is too old to believe in Santa. He DOES NOT EXIST! For Heavens sake, what is the matter with people. Only since coming on Mumsnet have I encountered people with children who still believe the myth at eight and over, personally I think the children are humouring their parents.

Gifts are bought by people, not a fictional character.

Enko · 25/12/2018 16:12

@jessstan2 did you not get what you wished for Christmas? On today of all days seems a sad post to make.

AJPTaylor · 25/12/2018 16:15

Only stocking gifts from Santa, wrapped in red tissue paper.
Everything else is from us. Has avoided much angst over the stuff that is out of stock, or lean years.
Keep Santa simple.
My parents never ever bothered with Santa

mumeeee · 25/12/2018 21:37

jessstan2 there are plenty of children who still believe in Santa/Father Christmas at 8 years old. Including children in my family.
Right is still little don't make children grow up too fast.
Our girls are adults now but we still do stockings for who ever is here on Christmas Day. We all just have fun

mumeeee · 25/12/2018 21:39

Eight even

I wrapped FC presents and family presents in the same wrapping paper which my 6 year old immediately picked up on. Thankfully, he didn’t question why FC had used the same wrapping paper. Next time I will make sure different wrapping paper is used!

Aragog · 26/12/2018 11:13

Eight is too old to believe in Santa. He DOES NOT EXIST!

Nonsense.

I work in a primary school, mainly with year 2 - so age 7y. The majority still believe at this age from my experience. I can't see them all suddenly stopping the Christmas after.

The magic of Father Christmas is whatever you want to make it. People can still bring gifts, even if they want the mystical FC/Santa involved as well.

Don't be a grinch. Let others, especially children, enjoy the fun if they want to!

jess

What an absolute misery.

Clankboing · 27/12/2018 08:51

All of my children believed even in year6 (age 11).

mamaduckbone · 27/12/2018 10:12

In our house only stocking presents come from Father Christmas and they are wrapped in separate cheapy wrapping paper which stays hidden. The presents from us are in the wrapping paper which is also used for other family members. My dcs are too old for it to be an issue now but I still keep it up.

Ladytinselmuff · 27/12/2018 10:54

Separate paper here ever since DD noticed when she was about 4. I have to go to great lengths to hide it every year - rod for my own back! Tbh she's nearly 12 but still keeping up the pretence that she believes. DS2 (6 & youngest) would not have a scooby doo!

louise5754 · 06/01/2019 00:06

She's actually being assessed for ADD, is dyslexic and has the mental age of a 6 year old but I didn't think I would need to mention that!!!
