Obviously charades

Anything else that's blissfully simple that we can all join in..?

I guess I’m a bit late and you’re all doing festive things frantically cleaning whilst screaming at DC and panicking about greasy hair and unwrapped presents

Two truths and a lie?

Or one of our best was when I got everyone to submit a secret fact about themselves beforehand then read them all out and you had to write down who you thought it was.

could you do an articulate kind of game but make up the thing to describe so easier for 4yo?

We’ve always played the super simple card game Newmarket. Good if you have a penny jar. Or you could use chocolates/whatever else you can think of.

Standard deck of cards. Take out kings and place them in the middle of the table face up. Everyone gets a small heap of change from penny jar - each player puts a penny on a king and one in the centre.

Shuffle cards and deal them all out face down. Dealer gets 2 hands. The dealer can look at one and swap to the other if they wish but if they swap they can’t go back to the first.

Play is super simple. Whoever has 2 of diamonds starts then whoever has 3 plays it and so on in sequence between all players until whoever plays the queen wins the money from the king.

Because of the extra hand you won’t complete all sequences so if someone plays a card an no one has the next one they have to play their lowest card of the other colour I.e black if last sequence was red.

Whoever gets rid of all their cards first wins and gets the heap of pennies in the middle. Any unwon pennies on kings stays on for the next deal.

Loved playing this game as a kid with my parents and grandparents. Not sure how small I was when I first played but think pretty young and someone can help youngest players with their hand until they get the hang of it.

If you’ve got teens that like to be on their phones then a kahoot can work well. There’s loads of multiple choice trivia quizzes for all ages and subjects on Kahoot.com everyone picks a nickname, logs on and competes against each other. We can play this for hours!
