If you don't cook Christmas Dinner, what do eat on Boxing Day?

We're going to family for Christmas Dinner for the first time in 12 years.
We also have the other side of the family family coming on Boxing Day.
Usually Boxing Day is Turkey and Ham pie or cold turkey, ham, cheeses, salad etc.
With no leftovers I'm not sure what to cook that will feel as festive/traditional.
So wondering what others do, TIA

We’re at my mums for Christmas dinner this year for the first time in 10 years. I have still bought a gammon, pigs in blankets and a turkey crown to cook so we have ‘leftovers’!

Invisimamma · 21/12/2018 16:34

My mum sends me away with tubs of leftover Xmas dinner 😂

We also have 'party food' dinner. We also still do a ham and get in a cheese board, pate etc.

I’d probably do duck. A nice roast but pretty easy. Simple sides and a good shop bought but light pudding such as the orange trifle from M&S.

Or I’d do a canapé buffet dinner (that’s what we have for dinner on Christmas Eve):

Blinis with smoked salmon, sour cream, quails egg and caviar

German five grain bread cut into bite sized pieces, with gravadlax and mustard/honey sauce and a slice of cucumber

Voul a vent cases filled with crab mousse, topped with a tiny slice of cucumber and a sprig of dill

Voul a vent cases with a smoked mackerel mousse and a topped with a tiny slice of lemon

Slices of a good Christmas ham

One or two cheeses

A duck liver pâté

Crackers, a good loaf of crusty bread

Crisps or cheese twists on the side.

Prosecco or other drinks as desired

We will be at SIL's house for Xmas dinner so will be buying a small turkey breast joint on Sunday to cook on Xmas Day evening to pick at for tea that night and have for dinner/tea on Boxing Day.

We will have pigs in blankets and stuffing in anyway and i am making roasties to contribute to Xmas dinner so will make extra to keep at home

I have guests Xmas eve for buffet and go to my parents for Xmas dinner.

Boxing Day is just me and ds.

I'm doing a gammon joint.

Xmas eve is stuffing, apple sauce and pulled pork with veg sticks etc.

Both of those work well with guests - especially if you have a slow cooker!

Lunch will be pasta and dinner a curry.

I hate leftovers from a roast, so we only cook as much as we will actually eat (three of us anyway).

SoyDora · 21/12/2018 17:24

We cook Christmas dinner but don’t have leftovers (usually do a fillet of beef or something) so on Boxing Day we just have what we fancy really. Often just a cheese board/pork pie/pickles/nice bread etc.

junebirthdaygirl · 21/12/2018 17:36

Lidl have a lovely stuffed leg of lamb..in my one anyway. So l would do that with all the roast trimmings.

Notso · 21/12/2018 19:05

Thanks for all the suggestions. DC would love the tacos but not so much the older guests.

I have a massive piece of gammon in the freezer so think I will cook that and a turkey crown maybe with some fresh warm rolls and some crispy cubed potatoes and some salad stuff.
