Reheating Christmas pudding

Hi not the most exciting post but I'm hosting Xmas lunch this year and I have bought a Xmas pudding but have no microwave. Can I steam the pudding on Xmas eve and reheat it on Xmas day? If so how long do I reheat it for? Thanks

I used to microwave puddings but I honestly think they taste better steamed. You just need to steam it on the day. Usually for a couple of hours to reheat (I think most bought ones are cooked already) but there should be instructions on the pudding? I make mine now but last time we had a bought one one the instructions were on the bottom, behind a peel-away label IYKWIM

The pudding will be cooked already - you should need to steam it for no more than an hour, I think.

Steam it on the morning?

I've heard of people frying leftover slices in butter too, which I will have to have a go at sometime.

RomanyRoots · 19/12/2018 13:09

read the instructions, mine says not to be reheated.
I'm not sure why, maybe somebody could enlighten. Grin

Fry in butter.

I always microwave it! It tastes the same as steaming I think!

Your pudding is already cooked so only need reheating. Instructions are on the packet. Otherwise, for a set and forget option, a slow cooker in a corner somewhere is a good way. It will take a couple of hours but is quiet and unobtrusive.

Another vote for frying in butter

It's cooked already. I make them, and to cook them they are steamed for hours on end, so when you get them you are always only reheating. Follow the instructions to steam, or fry in butter and clutter your arteries even more ! Never done it myself but going to try it out this year, yum!

Thanks everyone but my problem is I don't really want to have to cook it from scratch on Xmas day and wondered if I could half cook it on Xmas eve and warm it up on Xmas day.

If it’s a shop bought pud it will not need to be cooked on Christmas Eve at all. All you will need to do is heat it just before you eat

Daisymay2 · 20/12/2018 20:08

Pressure cooking is fine.
Christmas puddings are cooked initally, I make my own and pressure cook for about 2 hours. On Christmas day they get 30 minutes,

Leftover slices???
What on earth are they? Grin
