An Adult Christmas Eve Box?

Good Afternoon :)

I've just had this magical brainwave trying to work out something different to make my parents Christmas a bit more special. They've both had a difficult year with illness in the family and running around after everyone so I want to make it special for them too! And I don't have children so this will be the closest I get to making one Grin

So, I want to make a Christmas Eve box for both my parents, individually. They are 54 and 53, and so far my ideas are:

Mum

-New Pyjamas
-Lush bath bomb
-Mini bottle of wine

Dad

-New pyjamas

And that's it, I'm completely stuck on some other little things for Mum and anything for Dad. So what would you guys like to get in your very own Christmas Eve box?! Help me out!

Dad - Rubiks cube? He's the right age to have had one first time around, beer, chocolates, walking socks fluffy socks, Baileys, wine gums, new secateurs if he gardens?

That sounds amazing. Depending on their TV set up, what about a DVD either a feelgood film or a comedy/stand up show?

Something they wouldn’t usually treat themselves to like nail varnish, posh foot cream?

For your Dad, a mini whisky etc?A good book or magazine like Private Eye to read?

BiddyPop · 18/12/2018 14:42

What would nurture them on Christmas Eve, as they settle down before the mad rush of Christmas Day?

Christmas/winter beer, or a miniature of a favourite tipple?

Puzzlebook, Christmas crossword, Christmas edition of a favourite magazine (Spectator, Phoenix, a weekly sporting or monthly history or gardening journal??)

A nice pen/pencil to do any puzzles?

Nice bubble bath or shower gel or bar soap - a proper "manly" one but maybe festive or bit more luxury type for DF - travel sized ones are great for CEHs. You already have something for DM I see.

Definitely something cosy like fluffy socks, slipper socks, slippers, etc for both to relax.

Something small but special to eat - a favourite treat from years gone by, something they like just at Christmas, or something new to try.

Maybe a nice movie to enjoy together, or a book each and a CD of music they would enjoy listening to.

Not everything - just a few ideas to choose from.

And maybe put a handwritten note in as well, to explain it and, more importantly, that you have noticed them doing so much for others this year and that you wanted to do something special for them as well.....sort of message

I am doing one for my DH. I am getting pyjamas, slipper socks, some popcorn to pop, popcorn flavourings, a mini Santa teddy and possibly a blanket if I can find one. I'll put a DVD in we already have. I am approaching it the same as people do the kids boxes I suppose, nice things to use to relax on Christmas eve.

As an aside, do people wrap these things or just have them in a box?

Wee dram or if he doesn't drink then Horlix/fancy hot chocolate with snacks.
Movies
book, night reading light.
Slipper socks for men.
Heat pad if he has sore bits
Men skin care like night cream

All of your ideas sound absolutely fantastic, thank you so much for your help!

Dad I could most likely get a can of his favourite beer or a craft ale bottle, or even wine as he has that too. The sweets side of it most definitely, DM loves sherbert and we have a local shop that sells all the sweets from years gone by.

I am reading the thread, just at work at the moment so I'll be picking some of these great things tonight to use. As a sidenote, do people just put everything in a gift bag? Or can you actually buy a box to put everything in?

Sounds twee and a total waste of money.

Get them a decent bottle of wine.

Lazybonita · 18/12/2018 18:04

I did this for my mil one year, I got her cosy slippers, pj’s, sweets and a dvd of singing in the rain. She really liked it. You can buy boxes from loads of places (the card shop does them pretty cheap) but it doesn’t have to be in a box, a nice gift bag would work just as well I’m sure. For my kids I have boxes that came with my posh dinner set which I have decorated. They just seemed too nice to throw away.

BlueNeighbourhood · 18/12/2018 22:31

GlassLantern

Just gave them two bottles of white wine and some Love Cocoa bars of chocolate when I came in from work - so done that and that’s an every month or so thing from me, in this case I’d like to do something a bit more special.

What’s there to one is just a plain old nice thing to do to someone else ;)

Thank you for all your suggestions you’ve all really helped me think of some things for them.

I completely got the wrong end of the stick and am currently browsing Love Honey for DH's Adult Xmas Eve Box!

Vedette · 18/12/2018 23:09

Do they read? Or if not a book, a Christmas magazine of their interests. It is twee. But when my DS is old enough if I had a Christmas Eve box of wine , chocolates and a book I would love it even though Christmas Eve boxes will.never darken our door when he is a child Grin

I'm doing some for all the adults staying at my house, they are getting musical Christmas socks, a Baileys cracker, lip balm, deodorant, slippers, pillow spray, gloves, posh chocolate, a tipple of their favourite alcohol. They don't all get that whole list, but 4/5 things from the list. For example, I know one person who always forgets their gloves and we'll be doing lots of dog walks, my sister loves it when I give her slippers that she can take home, my nephew always gets chapped lips, so it's personalised. But everyone is definitely getting musical socks.

Eurgh, hate this attitude. If OP wants to do a Christmas Eve box for her parents (and it sounds lovely!) Then she can, negative shit like this is unnecessary. It's the Christmas board ffs, the week before Christmas!

Sweeties, bottle of fizz, a DVD? Not necessarily something festive, just something they'd enjoy sitting watching together. Pjs, slippers or nice fluffy socks. And yea, definitely a card explaining the whys and what fors.

LillianGish · 19/12/2018 19:21

Sounds twee and a total waste of money Not at all if it's full of stuff they like. After years of doing stockings and surprises for everyone else I'd absolutely love it if one of my kids did this for me. You know your parents so you know their favourite snacks, drinks, smells. I'd love a Christmasy scented candle in there or maybe even something as pedestrian as a Christmas tea towel to make Christmas in the kitchen a bit more special.
