Gift idea to keep someone warm?

DH has just started a new job where he spends a lot of time outside including night shifts, he's been really struggling with these recent cold nights and his regular thermals haven't really helped. Anyone got any ideas? I remember you can buy reuseable hand warmers so I'll look for some of those but can't think of anything else.

you can buy heated socks. they have a little battery pack. fairly expensive though for socks.

cloudtree · 16/12/2018 11:26

likewise you can buy heated insoles.

My DH rides a motorbike and has a heated under jacket which is battery heated. Saying that, he really recommends any down filled products.

I’ve just got my mum mention wool vests. They are really soft, but not chesp

My Dad has a heated waistcoat. Oh, how we laughed when it was delivered! Now I'm secretly jealous.

Lots of thin layers, natural fibres are good so wool socks, merino underlayers etc, A woolly hat (maybe with fleece lining) , thick soled boots or shoes or sheepskin inner soles, a neckgaiter/buff to stop the cold air around the neck, silk glove liners (they look kntted not silky,! And trap warm air in your gloves).

Base layers
Neck gaiter
Socks with a tog rating
Down filled coat
Thermal gilet (Sainsbury's do a really light weight but very warm one)
Deer stalker hat

Daughter has Raynaud's she likes Hot Rox rechargable hand warmers. Any Raynaud's support site has loads of great product ideas.

I find the supermarket thermals are useless.
The M&S ones are slightly better, but UniQlo ones are very good! And work well for insulation.
Natural fibres. Good quality hat. What sort of gloves?

MintTpls · 16/12/2018 11:53

I use the ladies version of these.
They are thermal but not massively bulky and it helps a lot with my Raynauds

Uniqlo heat tech thermals also really good

I think I'm going to get a Zippo hand warmer that runs for 12 hours on lighter fluid. How did I not know these existed? Would be so good for camping.

Downfilled gilet or coat - Uniqlo ones are great quality and inexpensive. Also Uniqlo heat tech thermals - so light but so warm - I basically live in these from Autumn to Spring!

Stompythedinosaur · 17/12/2018 21:05

Def go for merino wool thermals rather than synthetic. And down filled coat and body warmer.

Mesmeri · 17/12/2018 21:14

Lots of good suggestions here... especially agree what Notageek says. Particularly the boots/footwear. It's all useless if you don't have a decent sole between you and the frozen ground....

celtiethree · 17/12/2018 21:20

A thermoball jacket for under his regular jacket. Or a polar seal top. Not cheap but will work.

Silverstreaks · 18/12/2018 08:19

Merino base layers are in Aldi at the moment.
