Lego Friends for nieces (10 and 12)

Hello - have bought a big Lego Friends set as a gift for DNs who are 10 and 12 and still quite young / immature - now wondering if it’s too babyish for that age. Any advice from parents of that age?
Thank you!

It depends a lot on the age. DD, 11, stopped early this year and packed all Lego away. Others still got Lego but more Harry Potter than Lego Friends, for their 11 and 12 birthday.

My 10 yr old DD has had a big Lego Friends set for Xmas for the 4 years. We thought she was probably too old this year BUT last week she said "My favourite thing on Xmas day is when you are cooking lunch and Daddy is busy with my sister and I can sit down with my big Lego Friends set all by myself". Cue quick trip to Argos to get her another Lego Friends instead of anything else! I actually think they still enjoy it at this age as they don't need any help and can enjoy building and playing with it. I am sure they will love it.

I would say they're probably at the upper age for Lego friends in the sense that the range seems to be aimed at slightly younger girls. On the other hand there are probably plenty of 10 to 12 year olds who still love it but really the only way you can know in advance is to ask their parents.

I'm 43 and absolutely love Lego Friends. Never too old.

blackteasplease · 15/12/2018 22:49

My 10 yo has preferred lego architecture for a few years now.

drspouse · 15/12/2018 22:53

I'd have thought they'd be a bit past the pink/shops/models part rather than the Lego itself so maybe a different theme as others have said?

Mumshappy · 15/12/2018 22:58

Its probably too young for the 12 year old who will be at secondary school. Id ask their parents

AliMonkey · 15/12/2018 23:01

DD13 still wanted Lego Friends this Christmas. But does depend on child - she's still quite young in that unlike many that age she isn't into make up or boys (well on latter there was a brief glimpse that she might be this week but then decided she wasn't ready). I'd be surprised if the 10 year old didn't like it but 12 year old more difficult to call.

We have moved onto LEGO Harry Potter but my dd 10 would still be happy with LEGO friends or elves.

IceRebel · 16/12/2018 09:05

Which Lego friends set is it? There are lots of other themes out there which might better suit their ages, such as the Elves or Harry Potter lines.

Elphaba17 · 16/12/2018 09:38

My DD is only 7 but I find this thread really sad. We love lego in this house, parents included, and I've never thought of any set as babyish.

I agree with bookmum08 never too oldSmile

Stompythedinosaur · 16/12/2018 09:40

I would say Lego friends is aimed at younger kids. How about a different theme (Harry potter might be a good option)?

Pinkkahori · 16/12/2018 09:40

I have 10 and 12 year old dds and they have a combination of Lego Friends and Elves and they really like it.

Ffswtf · 16/12/2018 09:44

My DD10 is asking for more Lego Friends this Xmas, as well as Harry Potter. She loves it and will happily play for hours. Agree with pp that at this age they seem to enjoy being able to independently build, create and act out ideas. I say go for it!

TheBigBangRocks · 16/12/2018 09:48

Maybe at the upper limit for the ten year old but I don't know any 12 year old girls who still play with it.

You could ask the parents as you have time to return and swap for something else. You might be better with individual gifts anyway.

AnnaMagnani · 16/12/2018 09:50

My nieces were obsessed with Lego Friends but I really can't picture buying the 11-yr-old one anymore.

Think it depends on the individual girl.

Vintagebeads · 16/12/2018 12:58

My 11 year old has asked for Lego friends from Santa if that helps.
