What have you got for the men in your life?

Rather stuck for dp.
He is outrageously impossible to buy for.
Only likes one brand of clothing, has a couple of nice watches and coats etc.
Previous presents which have gone down well include Bose speaker, coffee machine,
Timberlands, espresso mugs, can’t remember what else.
Little gadgety things would sit in a drawer gathering dust. “Experience” type vouchers tend to expire. We go away for weekends and the like frequently. We have Spotify and Netflix and whatever else for films and music. He doesn’t wear headphones (thought about getting him some for the gym but he hates wearing them so pointless). He doesn’t read.
Booze is an option but boring.
His interests are food/cooking (we have every kitchen gadget I can think of and eat at nice restaurants already so things like voucher for a nice meal out a bit pointless), football, beer, walks with the family, films...
I’m at a complete loss.
I know he would be genuinely fine with nothing and in the spirit of wanting to be nice to the planet I don’t want to buy tat nor would it be welcome.
Things like socks and smellies we just buy as and when we need so not really a present as such.
Absolutely any advice would be welcome, or even just let me know what the men in your life are receiving so I can see if there is anything I hadn’t considered!
Thank you Smile

When I first asked DH he said he didn't want anything and came over all soppy.

I reminded him I did and he'd be watching me open presents and sitting there empty handed. This concentrated his mind and he soon came up with a list Grin

CakeNinja · 14/12/2018 20:43

He’s had a few river cottage and HFW cooking things he just hasn’t ever used.
We have been to le manoir a couple of times and it was lovely but not sure either of us would be fussed enough to go back for a third time.

Anna, dp just really isn’t bothered.
We agreed one year not to do presents for each other because we had just bought a house. I bought him something token from the dc, he bought me a car! And genuinely he was happy with his token things.
Maybe I just go with nothing. Makes me feel a bit rubbish though Confused

Expensive and unusual shave cream and hair wax
PJ trousers
T-shirt from a indy label
Comedy tickets
Smart plug

greenpop21 · 14/12/2018 20:53

Leather Man bag/laptop bag/wash bag?

He sounds like he has everything so what about donating to his favourite charity?

Howmanysleepstilchristmas · 14/12/2018 21:03

Helicopter flying lesson (mentioned he’d wanted to fly one since he was little.
New aftershave he mentioned
Book by someone he admires
Favourite chocolate
Foot cream and sheepskin insoles because he’s on his feet a lot
Nice wallet
Subscription to favourite magazine
Tracksuit for the gym
Those horrible cinnamon jelly beans because he loves them.
4 of the presents are from the dc, the others from me. Having written it down it all seems a bit meh.... I’m trying not to twitch...

Howmanysleepstilchristmas · 14/12/2018 21:06

Other ideas I had but didn’t get:
Old fashioned razor
Brian cox tickets
Boots

Ivegotthree · 14/12/2018 21:07

Get him a day course at Leith's or similar if you're not near London. I got my DH a morning course in one pot cookery and he learnt all manner of stews, paella etc.

Or get him a butchery course or wine course.

Okki · 14/12/2018 21:15

This year he's getting a bottle of Hugo Boss The Scent (his request) a Largo Winch comic book - he collects them and one of those quiz/funny fact books for on the toilet. In previous years he's had differing things from a wine fridge, a fancy watch down to pyjamas. He always gets a pair of novelty boxers which he always wears Grin

GiantKitten · 14/12/2018 21:25

If he likes walks, does he like maps?

DH likes both & I’ve got him this:
the Ordnance Survey Puzzle Book

It keeps selling out on various websites, & randoms are asking mad prices on eg eBay Hmm so the amazon £7.99 is amazing (I just paid £10+ at wordery but they’re sold out too currently!)

Can’t help otherwise. We’re both hopeless at presents, 42 years on Grin (you’d think it would get easier!)

HoHoFuckingHo · 14/12/2018 21:46

What about a chillys bottle? It’s metal on the mouth and keeps hot drinks hot for 12 hours. Have bought DH one as a stocking filler this year and hoping the favour is returned since we have an 9 week old who doesn’t think I need hot drinks Grin

Girlicorne · 14/12/2018 22:03

I ve bought DH a playstation classic, thermal underwear and some socks and sweets. We don't do presents for each other but I had to this year, I d have broken without him this year. For the first time in our 12 year relationship he s really had to hold me up and he truly came through for me :-)

Sethis · 14/12/2018 22:09

I know you said experience vouchers expire, but maybe Clay Pigeon Shooting? I've yet to meet another guy who says no on principle to the idea of 30 minutes or so spent blowing bits of ceramic into little tiny pieces.

Depending on the age of your kids could even be a family thing.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 14/12/2018 22:25

Dh is getting a new sat nav and designer trainers this year

Flooffloof · 14/12/2018 22:35

Cheap t-shirts here, a medium is a decent size. Bought for husband and son. Some funny ones and currently half price some are £6

Bojangles33 · 14/12/2018 22:41

There was a beer and book subscription thing on that Phillip Schofield programme last week - that looked good!

Mine is getting the Lego Mini Cooper which is a bit ridiculous but he will love it

Taffeta · 14/12/2018 22:48

I’ve got DH

Some posh Irish socks
The worlds smallest screwdriver on a keyring
A politics guide
Lime Intense Lindt bars

Just little things I think he will like

ihatehoney · 14/12/2018 23:01

I got my boyfriend 2 shirts- one H&M and one Debenhams. Smaller gifts this year as it was his birthday in July and I got him a nice watch then. 👍🏻

Wish I could get a more meaningful present but I couldn't afford it!

PerfectPeony · 14/12/2018 23:07

Yahbasic I want a ancestry DNA kit so bad! Glad it’s not just me who will be getting this as an Xmas present.

Not done much for DH as I’m on mat leave so it comes out of family money anyway. Haven’t shopped yet (last minute dash next week) but I’m thinking of doing a stocking:

  • Bodyshop men’s shampoo or massage oil
  • Favourite chocolates/ biscuits
  • car magazine
  • mini G&T
  • socks
  • truffle oil
  • new kitchen utensil of some kind

Dad: we baked him a Christmas cake, made homemade cranberry sauce and did a personalised mug! Grin

PickAChew · 14/12/2018 23:10

A replacement for his 15 year old, heavily faded, dressing gown of doom.

CakeNinja · 14/12/2018 23:10

He goes shooting sometimes and really enjoys it so that’s the perfect suggestion of something he’d like!
Chillys bottle might be something to look at. Can you drink out of them do you think? Or for something like tea do you think he’d need a separate cup to pour tea into?
Girl that’s really nice and for a similar reason I’d like to spoil my dp this year.
We just gave our satnav away because we have one built in to our cars but I still just use maps on my phone!!

ScreamingValenta · 14/12/2018 23:10

A book for my dad.

Aftershave and a CD for DH.

CakeNinja · 14/12/2018 23:12

Dressing down of doom Grin
Neither of us wear one but he had one when we first met. I asked him a while ago if he’d like one again but he said no!
Shame really as you can get some really lovely looking ones although I wouldn’t want to wear one either.

OP posts:
CakeNinja · 14/12/2018 23:23

Oh fuck it, I’ll just wrap myself up in a giant bow Grin

Nonomore2 · 14/12/2018 23:28

Someone on the other thread was getting their DH a whippet device to make foams, sauces and creams. My DH loves cooking so I’m going for one too I think..
