Just that really what cheese do you buy to make a cheese board? What wine to go with it? Do I need pickle like Branston? What else apart from crackers to go with it? And do I need to buy/put it on a wooden chopping board? Sorry that was a lot of questions, I am a cheese board virgin.

OK then, what Grumpbum123 said is perfect.

And pick wine you like to drink. No point having something no-one likes.

I don't drink alcohol so have no idea about wine, buying it for my friend.

Mmmm love a cheese board. I don't like full bodied wines with cheese so not a merlot but nothing too light like a Pinot Noir. Cannot go wrong with a Malbec or a Cabernet Sav.
Grapes and fig go great with a cheese board. Must have a bree, for sure. A blue is always good and a smokey hard cheese. I could demolish a cheese board right now

I always include an aged cheddar, camembert, goats cheese, blue cheese, smoked cheese and Ossau Iraty which is a sheep's cheese and delicious!

My cheese board is:
A mature cheddar
Another hard cheese, possibly smoked
A brie/camembert
A wensleydale with apricots or cranberries
A hard blue like stilton
A soft blue like cambonzola

Grapes and apples
Oat cakes are good and so are salted crackers

Wine wise, anything I enjoy or a slow gin.

I'm making a cheese board as a Christmas present. Agree with the cheeses above (cheddar, smoked and Brie but this is based on his taste). Ordered a board from eBay which has great reviews (£3 plus £2.50 p&p) plus a small wooden mouse from a friend's shop to sit alongside the cheese. And Port (nice sized bottle, £8 from M&S as half price at the moment).
