Present for visitor on Christmas Day

I have no idea what present to get a lady who is coming to us on Christmas Day. I know very little about her. She is my SIL's cousin. I'm guessing she is early/mid thirties. She lives abroad so don't want to get her something difficult to take back on the plane. I had thought of a bracelet but my mum has just told me that's what she has just bought her! I'm just stumped for ideas! Help!

Thin scarf like silk or similar?

Iloveautumnleaves · 13/12/2018 19:22

Something very British.

Box of tea bags?

🤣🤣

Why not just ask your SIL?

How lovely your family are trying to find nice gifts for someone you’ve never met. I don’t know many people who wouldn’t appreciate a nice pair of gloves or a scarf.

catchyjem · 13/12/2018 22:43

Thanks for the replies. She lives in a warm country so not sure about gloves. I've been given so many scarves myself over the years I can't even count and I haven't worn any of them Blush. I like the pen but do people write stuff much anymore? we're always tapping away on phones and tablets aren't we! I'm steering clear of toiletries/ liquids as I don't know if she would be able to take them back on the plane. Actually, something very British could be a good idea. Maybe not tea bags though!

Something quite ordinary but from a specifically British place - like shortbread from Fortnum & Mason, jam selection from Harrod's, that kind of thing.
Fortnum's do an amazing range of teas, and some lovely small hamper-type gifts which leave you with a nice quality wicker basket etc.

shortcake biscuits in a tin!

BrieAndChilli · 13/12/2018 23:22

Nice keyring
Nice notebook
Necklace
Nice candle
Socks
A scarf (The sheer type ones)

shopgirl18 · 13/12/2018 23:45

A brooch? Go into local boutiques and possibly find one by a local designer.

shopgirl18 · 13/12/2018 23:46

Not too pricey, I bought a Charles rennie mackintosh one recently for £14.

Have a look in the food bit of TK Maxx for a pretty tin of sweets?

DeepIn40 · 14/12/2018 00:02

M & S have some beautiful chocolate truffles. £15

wednesday32 · 14/12/2018 12:46

A travel size skincare set from clinique or clarins (usually under £35), that way she can take it back on hand luggage

christmaschristmaschristmas · 14/12/2018 12:54

I would probably buy a nice pamper gift set and some chocolates.

Something like a NUXE/Aesop/Ren one, depending on budget - definitely not a sanctuary or soap and glory gift set.

You could probably pick that all up in M&S.

I'd go for a tin of Fortnums biscuits. She can eat the biscuits while she's here and easy pack the inside of the tin out to travel home and keep the tin as a keepsake: www.fortnumandmason.com/products/musical-piccadilly-biscuit-selection?taxon_id=817
