We are being hosted for Christmas by a lovely family this year (our family but they live away from us so we don’t usually spend christmas with them)
They are quite comfortable so don’t necessarily want for anything, lovely home etc quite into designer and high end high street. They are a young couple (mid 30s) and have three dc, ds 7 ds 11, dd 15
My budget is quite tight this year but don’t want them to look at a gift and be disappointed

Definitely turn up with more than one bottle of something! Several bottles and lots of nibbles.

Do they like playing gmes-there are some fab family games out there.

I’d go family board game and nice chocolate or something like fancy hot chocolate.

[GreenKangaroo] Grin fair enough, I wouldn’t want one either.

OP, best gift is to be a fabulous guest - make cups of tea, do washing up, peel spuds, entertain the DC, eat whatever is offered, etc.

That should be GreenKangaroo

Beautiful flowers already arranged, preferably with a vase. I do that and it always goes down well. Can't go wrong with flowers and booze.

How about a kite and a lovely picnic blanket - for family days out when the weather improves?

Actually with children of those she's, I think it would be polite to get them each something to open. 7 year olds are at peak Christmas exciteability!
I know a lot of primary school children and they all seem to love drawing and writing equipment. Everybody, even 15 year olds, like nice pens. And then get a big box of quality chocolates for them to share.
I think it would be quite hard to find a game that would appeal to such a broad age range, but there are ones ( can't remember name) where you have to follow lights/ sounds in sequence, which can get quite competitive and the 7 year old wouldn't be at a disadvantage because its about memory and reaction speed.
Hope you have a lovely time.

Games hamper for kids:
Dobble and Exploding kittens with sweets, popcorn etc. We play these with 7-16 year old plus adults.
Then nice wee hamper for adults full of treats they may not buy themselves.
