I've decided to do a hamper for my FIL - in his 70s, tee-total, no real hobbies, so going to be food-based.

So far I have:
Chocolate orange
Nice biscuits
Little puddings - chocolate sponge, treacle sponge, Christmas pudding
Probably mince pies and stollen

Any other thoughts?

Some good quality chutneys and pickles would go well with the cheese and biscuits.

I did one for my FIL and put a few of tins of really nice soup in there ( e.g. he liked Lobster Bisque ) also cheese and crackers , i.e. things he could have for a nice dinner / supper without too much effort ( this is age related actually as he was increasingly not cooking properly for himself as he got older - older than your FIL ) -so some chocolates etc but also savoury things which he could make a nice evening meal out of without much effort. We put a jar of stilton in there which seems to last for ages. Otherwise yes - just whatever you know he likes whatever age but I would go for a mixture of sweet things and savoury. I do think pickles or mustards ( if he likes that are good as also last. ) & teabags and coffee. A bottle of elderflower fizz or similar ?

A pack of nice Christmassy paper napkins and some mint imperials

sueelleker · 12/12/2018 14:55

Small bottles of wine?(Just enough for1 glass in each)

peachypetite · 12/12/2018 14:57

That's a lot of sweet stuff. Put in some savoury too? Posh crackers/ breadsticks, tins of nice soup?

Lovemusic33 · 12/12/2018 16:19

Mini Christmas pudding or steamed pudding?
Tin of deluxe custard?

My nan likes black magic chocolates, honeycombe and fudge.

Another vote for chutney and maybe some nice cheeses.
