His birthday is December too.

He likes gaming so for his birthday have got him a gaming chair, headphones, 2 games he wants (gonna look crap wrapped up but they were 50 quid each Shock ) and some small bits.

Now for Christmas he won't tell me a thing.

He says he doesn't want anything as he has everything he needs

Which is lovely and sweet and unexpected from a teenager but also incredibly frustrating as a present buyer.

He used to read but he just cares about gaming now Sad

He isn't into clothes.
Not into music

He says he doesn't want money as that's sad at Christmas.

I'm pulling my hair out.

I need suggestions please

How about a book that might get him back into reading? Something like The Martian, really gripping?

I agree with others that I’d hold back a game from birthday too.

I got ds the Subcold ultra 10 from Amazon. It's quiet and holds a lot more than most of the other small fridges.
It was £58.99 I think.

My ndn bought her ds the Argos one for around £30 for his bday recently and it is teeny tiny. Fits 2 drinks in.

Thanks Zoflorabore - will take a look

I'm surprised many feel you've bought too much for his birthday and to give him those gifts for Xmas instead.

We too have a December birthday in the house, and in all honesty, we make a far bigger deal of birthdays than we do at Christmas.

Birthdays are their own special day and the day on which they should be spoiled, I don't get the whole going overboard for Christmas for all and sundry and only marginally acknowledging birthdays (plus it works out better for our budget!)

In terms of helpful Christmas idea's, ours are getting sweets, aftershave, books, pj's, and Amazon Dots. Not massively expensive at all.

Branded hoodies or boxer shorts always go down well with my teen. Or a new pair of decent trainers (he did try them on and I’ll just wrap them, but you could always give him a “voucher” for a pair you’ll choose together in January). Last year I got him a year’s subscription to PlayStation magazine.

I’ve also had success with finding some quite “niche” wall posters of things they are interested in. They live in their rooms at that age so it’s nice to personalise the space.

He used to read but he just cares about gaming now sad

Buy him books! The most tempting books you can find. Maybe non-fiction and loosely connected to gaming? Or the most appealing novel or biography you can find? But definitely don’t just accept he’s given up books.

Other than that, maybe a board game (again maybe a connection to gaming?)

New bike?

Mine's tricky too, he isn't much into gaming, doesn't spend much time in his room, doesn't want or need any new tech (he's got a phone and laptop and hates the idea of smart speakers).

So far he's getting a stadium tour of his football club, some tee shirts, a card game, a hockey bag, earphones, and stocking bits.

I'm with the others on here who have suggested some things essential to gamers. As a gamer myself, this is what I think is essential:

Mini fridge - a gamer needs somewhere to put their cans or bottles of pop as it's a long way to the kitchen when playing a game.

LED lights for TV or monitor - I don't want the big light on and I can change the colours to suit the game or how I'm feeling and it looks great

4K screen - a good quality screen makes all the difference for playing games these days.

Super fast broadband - it's expensive but everyone gets the gift of this. He will thank you for having great gaming speed and you get faster streaming.

I don't know if it's a console or PC gamer you have but if it's a PC gamer you can perhaps look at gaming keyboards or mouse?

My DS (13) is the same. I sorted his 6yo brother out ages ago as he always has a lost a mile long. DS1 just had his birthday so lacks for nothing he really wants. He is utterly unmaterialistic, not into brands or trends, hates washing so sees gifts of smelly stuff as sarcastic nagging, all he really loves is gaming (he can't think of any game he'd like now) and reading about stocks and shares (yeah, he's a bit quirky bless him). If he were a bit older I'd just give him money to spend when he does see something. But I know he does genuinely like having things to unwrap. So difficult to buy for!

Roomba · 10/12/2018 11:42

Teebee - be very, very careful... DS1 asked for a 'baby brother' for his present one year. Oh, how we laughed, because that wasn't happening. Ever. Exactly 40 weeks after DS's birthday, guess where I was? Yep, the delivery theatre... Wishes have power Wink Bloody miraculous power, it seems. Of course I now concur this was the best present ever Wink

TeeBee · 10/12/2018 11:56

Roomba, I am not listening to you! Don't be giving me the voodoo! I am too old for that shit (hopefully).
