Inspired by the other board game thread, I may be asking a lot, but does anyone have any suggestions for games that will suit a nearly 2 and nearly 4 year old? Thanks all!

The orchard games are quite good for that age. Things like shopping list .

Agree with Orchard games (though the two year old may struggle with some). Games like Pop Up Pirate can be fun.

Yes, the orchard games are good.

We recently received a game called don’t break the ice where the kids have to knock out “ice cubes” (plastic). It’s a bit like a horizontal jenga but very child friendly to understand the concept. They use little (weak) plastic hammers and love it.
I have a 3 & 5 yr old and it’s the 3 year olds favourite game.
It’s about £16 on amazon.

The ,three little pigs orchard game was a big hit with mine.

Penguin pile up, is also great for that age.

Animal upon animal is good for a 2 year old. It had wooden animals you stack and try not to knock over.

Pig goes pop. Simple but encourages learning colours and numbers

Funnyface1 · 08/12/2018 07:33

I keep saying I'm done for the kids but now I've seen "don't break the ice" I have to go buy that today Xmas Grin

Dominoes (picture) or memory type game where you flip cards? Agree with orchard, mine love the pizza one and shopping trolley.

Orchard games for definite. At that age DD enjoyed the Ladybird dice game, shopping list, that's not my cupcake and the dominos one. Then Pop up Pirate

Hungry hippos is great

junebirthdaygirl · 08/12/2018 07:52

There is one like don't break the ice which has a wall built of bricks with Humpty on top and you tap out the bricks with little trowels. Don't be surprised if you and dh are tapping out bricks when dcs are in bed. We had it for gd and my older kids in their 20s played it with friends. Cheap game but fun.
Also the one where the dice is held in a plastic case in centre and is just ludo then. You and 2 year old can go together. Good for counting.

At those ages I'd also look at the range of games Early Learning Centre has to offer. Twister?! The kids would no doubt love grownups joining in! Is there a board game cafe near you where you could go and try a few to see what they like?

stayathomer · 08/12/2018 08:05

Zingo-it's like a picture bingo game! Also there's a hungry dumpty game which is basically a 'safer;)' version of Jenga where you push one block out at a time until humpy dumpty falls. Snakes and ladders (won't suit 2 yo 4 yo will love it!) and connect 4

Sleephead1 · 08/12/2018 08:13

we have lots of board games your 2 year old might need help with most of them but my little boy is 5. We have twister , hungry frogs , snakes and ladders, doggy dominoes, a hairy mclary matching set , animal homes ( memory game have to match the animal to it's home ), Then some orchard games like old McDonald's lotto , shopping list , bus stop, post box game, knickerbocker glory , We also have pie face and a couple of animal bingo type games

The shopping game from orchard toys

Equimum · 08/12/2018 09:58

Definitely agree with Orchard Toys games. Our young west started playing Dotty Dino, Greedy Gorilla and Pizza Pizza (basic matching) when he was two, and most will be suitable for your four year old. My DS turns six this month and still loves the ones he got when he was three, so they can last too.

Other games my youngest enjoyed at two include Pop-Up Pitate, Rockin’ Robot (ELC), Monkey Buisness (ELC) & Buckaroo. These would all be great fun for your four year old too.

Oh wow loads of suggestions, amazing, thank you all! Off to look at orchard games and compile a bit of a list I think!
