Looking at buying my 4 and 2 year old a play kitchen for Christmas. Have my eye on either the gltc festival van or st Ives. We are in masses of debt so probably should go with ikea. Does anyone have any of these? Any recommendations? Will my children be entertained for the hours promised by reviewers?

I think it depends on your children tbh. I have 2 DC very close in age. Only one DC really played with it and even then it got the most use when it was being run as a shop or a cafe. I would definitely go with IKEA it's very well made especially for the price. I'd avoid the wooden nice looking GLTC stand mixer type accessories that are so tempting to get as they look so nice. The plastic Asda £5 pop up toaster and a plastic kettle is better option.

The Ikea kitchen is great. Asda do a similar one for half the price.

Thank you! The gltc ones are so pweetty Blush

The Asda wooden kitchen is great. And usually on offer in the run up to Christmas. Nice colours too.

Asda!

We've got a wooden play kitchen from Asda. It's lovely and has lasted well. Got it for ds when he was 4. 4 years on and dd, who is 2, is now playing with it.

IKEA kitchen is fab. DD got one when she was 2.5 she's nearly 7 now and it's still going strong! Really handy that it comes with little extension things for the legs so DD isn't too tall for it. Over years She's got some IKEA pots and pans, an Asda boiling kettle, ELC chopping fruit it's fab.

I intend to give it a bit of a makeover when DC2 is old enough for it

We got the ikea for my now six year old when she was two.
It’s been played with constantly and her 3 year old sister loves it too.
It’s still in great condition and can see it being played with for many more years to come.
Definitely recommend.
Also, if you google IKEA hacks some people have given the basic kitchen some amazing makeovers.

We got one from Asda last Christmas and it was a nightmare! Bits missing, bits broken, no instructions and needed a hacksaw to sort out! Asda sent an email saying it wasn’t up to their usual standard and gave a full refund! I’d go Ikea every time now!

Oscarpeanut · 08/12/2018 07:58

Ikea every time. Why wouldn't you?

Bubblysqueak · 08/12/2018 07:59

IKEA here too. Bought for Ds when he was 2 , he's 6 now and it's been used every day by both ds's and still looks like the day we bought it despite being filled with water, mud and what ever else they can find.

I see them regularly on my local fb toy swap page. I just picked up a mellisa and Doug toy shopping cart super cheap.

IKEA one lasts really well and after a while you'll be very glad of its muted colour palette. It fits in with any decor and isn't an eyesore in the front room!

wellhellojill · 08/12/2018 09:04

Have you tried eBay? We picked up a second hand kitchen, £160 new and £10 off eBay. My LO loves it

Matilda1981 · 08/12/2018 09:06

Try Facebook selling pages! A lot of people sell them this time of year to make way for new things. Don’t buy a new one if you can’t afford it! I bought a really nice wooden one for my two from Facebook for £20 two christmas’ ago, it would have been £179 new! It’s still going strong!

CottonSock · 08/12/2018 09:08

Ikea one much better than asda. I have the asda one and it's falling to bits. No draw now, no door, top section wobbles. I doubt I'll be able to give it away and hardly played with

Mrsfussypants1 · 08/12/2018 09:28

Thumbs up here for ikea kitchen. Adsa have the wooden food truck/kitchen down to £60 and there's extra 20% off(over £50 spend) right now making it £48. Big enough for 2 to play with at same time. My friend bought as she's child minder and it really has wow factor and is withstanding some heavy play,
