Trying to think of ideas to get or make for both sets of grandparents for Christmas.

I'm thinking of decorating a plant pot for my dad off DS as he loves gardening but thats it.

Any suggestions? I'd love to make something for them bit DS is 21months so obviously his art and craft skillset isn't Brilliant yet Smile

I'm doing calenders next year as I'm due another baby in May so rather have pictures of both next year. They also both have photo mugs that we had done last year/this year.

Make them some Christmas baubles?
Either salt dough ones of your DCs hand/foot print and then get them to decorate it once dry or a photo bauble?

Some sort of food? Like chocolate bark that you could easily make with a toddler and decorate and then put into some nice cellophane and give to the GPs?

Something like this? There's lots of ideas on Pinterest Christmas bowl

whitechocolatefingers · 07/12/2018 14:08

Hobbycraft has lots of things that can be painted.

MyKingdomForBrie · 07/12/2018 14:13

I've done ceramic baubles with hand prints on, the lady that does them paints any design you want around the handprints and glazes them.

I've also got one of those sappy 'this nanny belongs to' keyrings for MIL cos she'll love it Grin

We did salt dough ornaments when DD was 2.5. Easy to do and as it only goes on the tree it doesn’t matter if it is not so artistically done.

We also did fabric painting one year, 100% cotton aprons and fabric paint. DD was a bit older so able to colour better. But for a younger child you could work with stamps to make silly pattern. If yiu use proper paint it will survive a 60 degree wash.

Little handprint and one of those little poems about little handprints, when I was very small (etc etc) - always very cute and easy to do.

blackcat86 · 07/12/2018 14:29

I've made Xmas baubles (you can buy them from ebay) with one of DDs first onesies and a foot tag for each set of GPs. I've also ordered a wooden block from ebay where you ask for photos to be printed. They were £10 each and have a photo of each person's first cuddle with DD.

Some lovely ideas! Loving the salt dough bauble, will definitely do that and have a look at the other ideas. Smile

We've decorated mugs for family this year. Bought cheap plain white pens from Ikea and some porcelain pens and the kids have drawn pictures on them. Baked them in the oven to set. They look really good. Also they've done a few canvases (request from sil as we did some a few years ago when they were little and they looked good then, even tho it was random splodging of paint). You can get small canvases really cheaply in places like home bargains and b&m

Cheap white mugs from Ikea!

misskatamari · 07/12/2018 17:29

We've done fabric painted tote bags before now too. And T-shirt's for Grampy - either with fabric paint or fabric pens now they're older and can draw better

If you have silicone moulds you can let them loose with melted choc (knot the top of the piping bag and let it cool a bit) and sprinkles. Just give the tray a few gentle taps before adding lots of sprinkles. Once you pop them out all the messy bits will be gone and you have a yummy gift that a toddler can genuinely feel they made. And there’s no handling of the food so it’s hygenic too.

When my nephew was little, my sister got some ceramic coasters that you can decorate and then bake yourself. Nephew drew some things and then they bake and come out lovely and shiny. We still use them now, 8 years later. Like these (see below)

Mine have always made their own presents. I think at that age I gave them a load of stickers to make a picture and then put one of those little calendars on the bottom that cost about 30p. As they got older they moved through different baker ross kits.
