DH built dd5's LOL house this afternoon and she's just found a piece of paper under the table that she says is from the LOL house. I was pretending I couldn't hear her while I desperately tried to think of an excuse, and then I said it must have come as a sample with the toy catalogue that came in the post this morning. Thankfully she's gullible, but dd11 in the background went 'hmmmm' and she is likely to ruin the surprise. Any bright ideas anyone? I really wanted this to be a surprise Sad

I’d be speaking to the 11 year old about keeping the secret.

LondonLassInTheNorthPole · 06/12/2018 19:44

Unless 11 year old DD has SEN, She can keep a secret and wont ruin it surely?

apostropheuse · 06/12/2018 19:50

I would instruct the 11 year old, in no uncertain terms, that she is NOT to spoil the surprise for her sister. At that age she should be able to keep quiet.

but dd11 in the background went 'hmmmm' and she is likely to ruin the surprise

Why?!

ClosedAuraOpenMind · 06/12/2018 19:54

completely unrelated question - how long did the LOL house take to build?

am hiding one in the garage for DD and won't be able to bring it in before christmas eve

slappinthebass · 06/12/2018 20:13

Should have said in the OP but she does have SEN, ASD and ADHD. She wouldn't definitely tell, I just can't trust her completely and she might give it away with hinting. Plus she really was hoping her sister would get the house too so I wanted it to be a surprise, ah well.

@ClosedAuraOpenMind It took 1.5 hours to build, so not too bad, but also not ideal! We were only opening it to check nothing was damaged as I've heard a lot have been. But it's hard to get it out to check and put it all back in and DH had the morning off work so I managed to convince him to just build it. I'd read it can take 3 hours so was a bit worried. So relieved it's out the way now.

What's an LOL house?

Thejezebel · 06/12/2018 20:22

From what I've seen of them on facebook, they're the new version of Polly Pocket or Sylvanian families. Seem to be all the rage this year.

Thejezebel · 06/12/2018 20:23

Does the older dd believe OP?

Poppiesway1 · 06/12/2018 20:28

I’m gutted.. My 20yr old ds admitted he found his present a few weeks ago!! I know he’s 20 but I was so excited as I brought him the Lego hogwarts express him from holiday in USA. He never goes in my room and was feeling so guilty he had to sheepishly tell me.. he still got told off for 1- going in my room 2- looking under my bed and 3-not buying his own wrapping paper (which he was looking for) when they were little I used to lock their presents up in suitcases.. I thought at 20 he’s never going to be snooping now!! Xmas Sad Xmas Sad ps his younger ds is 12 and has ADHD.. it’s been killing him keeping it secret so at least I don’t have to worry about it slipping out in a fit of anger Xmas Shock

ClosedAuraOpenMind · 06/12/2018 20:42

thanks @slappinthebass - that doesn't sound too bad

was starting to get a bit stressed that it would end up being like the christmas eve we built the ikea toy kitchen unit after drinking wine WineBlush

slappinthebass · 06/12/2018 21:28

Older dd hasn't believed since she was 3, so that's not a problem.

It's just gutting at any age I imagine @Poppiesway1 Sad. For me it's all the excitement of giving someone a surprise you know they'd love but never imagine they'd get. Last birthday dd1 burst into the living room way after her bedtime the night before her birthday and saw the huge hamster cage I was wrapping (no hamster in it at the time Grin). I was so upset.

The 11 year old has also asked for the LOL dolls house so I wanted it to be a surprise for her too. Even though it's her sisters present. The 5 year old is very gullible and not a critical thinker at all, so I think I might have got away with the ridiculous sample excuse. Dd11 is having an expensive surprise present this year too, so all is not lost I hope.

@ClosedAuraOpenMind I'm relieved we picked up our Ikea kitchen second hand a few years ago! But I've spent many Christmas eves building Playmobil until the early hours. I'm hoping one day I'll manage to go to bed at a reasonable hour Christmas Eve, relax with to or a book or something instead of frantically building or wrapping.
