Stuck for 6 year old with a small list

6 year old ds. Had a recent birthday. Into Harry Potter and Pokemon.
Would of loved a Nintendo switch but it would of come out of my holiday savings so decided against it and feel a bit bad.
All he has put on his list is another wand (£30) which I know will probably just sit in it’s box mostly.
More HP Lego that I have to sit and build, although he does play with it. He wants the great hall and hogwarts set. I wouldn’t get both but to be honest they are very expensive for a six year old that can’t build them. And then I have to find somewhere to put them.
That’s literally all he has asked Father Christmas for though.
I usually aim for around 15 presents. Already got a few bits but am genuinely stuck this year. Am trying to cut back on mountains of plastic toys that take up space we don’t have and don’t get played with.

My dd is very into harry potter too. She is getting the great hall and the whomping willow set. She has also asked for a spy kit. So I've out together some stuff like finger print kit etc, I tho j she will love that and get a lot if okay out of it too and she isn't really one to 'play particularly. Got her some fun stuff like spy glasses and fake moustaches which she will think are hilarious! Would that work? Dd2 is getting a science kit along similar lines with a microscope and some sets, goggles and lap coat etc. If that's more his thing?

I'm stuck for my 5 year old boy. All he's asked for is some tractors for his farmset. He's got loads of tractors already though. He is still very much kept amused with his cars/trainset/farmset. Never showed any interest in dh's ps4 or any mobile phones or whatnot.

Harry Potter or Pokemon clothing. Primark sell loads of both. Pokemon annual. HP or Pokemon colouring /activity books (The Works for those).

lynnepot · 06/12/2018 11:17

Yup pokemon wouldn't work with my boy. He seemingly only has interest in paw patrol, the simpsons and police inteceptors Grin

We have the whomping willow and quidditch set. He wants more, but I have no where to keep them all. I’ll probably get the hogwarts express.
I’ll have a look at spy kits I’m not sure if he would like something like that.

The Kano Harry Potter wand? Need an iPad I think, you then programme the wand to do spells on screen.

What about a HP hamper? A basket full of HP goodies; Berniebott’s Beans, a bottle of Butterbeer, HP notepad and pen, costume, mug? Or tickets to the Studios? We went on my DD birthday and she got to open the doors to the Great Hall

I've also got a 6 year old who's into Spy stuff. He's getting the Little Tykes My First Drone, a spy pen, a Hex bug (I reckon it's kind of spy-gagetty) and these pure mad walkie talkie watch things.
He's also getting some lego. I agree with pp though-I wouldn't get him a set he was incapable of building himself. Especially if it was expensive. Where's the fun in that?
Would he be interested in a magic set?

Misty9 · 07/12/2018 23:00

My 7yo has put very little on his list...so I'm buying him those and not much else as he really wouldn't see past the things he most wants! But if you do want other ideas, the snap circuits went down really well last Xmas when ds was 6yo. He needed a bit of help then but can do them alone now. Games are also really popular and orchard games pop to the shops has been a hit recently.

Letsmove1t · 07/12/2018 23:02

Can I ask which hex bug there’s sooo many- also seeking ideas

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 07/12/2018 23:09

He's getting [https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hexbug-Original-Robot-random-color/dp/B00164CKIO/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1544223915&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=original+hexbug&dpPl=1&dpID=41K%2BhL7JTAL&ref=plSrch the original]] one.
We've also had a lot of fun with the Hex bug nanos if your looking for Stocking fillers.

I feel like o have to get at least one of the Lego sets as that’s what he really wants. The cheapest one is £75 Shock. I’ve spent most of my free time the last 2 weeks building the ones he got for his birthday. I don’t mind that he doesn’t help build them, he’s enjoying playing with them. I’m more worried that he will go off Harry Potter and will have £200 worth of Lego and various other merchandise. But as I said it’s the one thing he has put on his list to Father Christmas that he really wants.

Other years I’ve tended to get around 20 presents. I’m going to struggle to think of that many this year without wasting money on stuff he doesn’t really want.

Snap circuits have come up a few times. I’m not sure he’d like them...

Primark have loads of Harry Potter merch in, maybe you could get stuff for his room rather than toys. Craft stuff if he's into that. Tickets for a day out somewhere over the Christmas holidays. A movie hamper with a christmassy dvd to watch. My ds loves lego books it gives him lots of ideas.

JurassicAdventure · 08/12/2018 12:28

Have you got the Harry potter TV remote (there is a bit of a knack to using it so don't throw out your original one!) It is properly magical to turn the TV on and off!

Even if the lego sets just sit in their boxes you could sell them on in a few years for £££!

lorisparkle · 08/12/2018 12:34

My ds1 has been into a particular type of lego (minecraft) since he was little. He still asks for more and more kits each year and he now has a high sleeper bed with the whole desk / shelves covered in the stuff. Your ds might be the same!

Imustbemad00 · 08/12/2018 20:26

@lorisparkle I really hope so but he has a tendency to become completely obsessed by something for months before moving on to something else.

@JurassicAdventure I’ll look into that. Thanks.
