Going through the motions

I just thought I'd start this for anybody else who is going through the motions this year.
Maybe we can share ideas to make it good for the younger ones.
We are mostly adults but need to consider dd who is 14, I haven't done a thing yet.
We will put a tree up on about the 15th.
I can't even think of what to buy her. The others will be easy, but think it's too late for Amazon now.

If you take out a free 30 Amazon prime trial, you can get next day delivery on loads of items.

Hey

I know what you mean, I was very very much like that last year even though DD is still young enough to get super excited about it. I could feel myself feeling this way again this year, fucking chocolate santas on the shelves in October etc. no wonder many of us feel exhausted by it before we even get to December and I think that's part of the problem. Christmas now seems to drag on forever, particularly if - like me - you are the main bringer of it. It can easily become just drug work.

There's plenty of time, the shops never run out of stuff and it's ok to really pair back the whole shebang. Tree up on 15th is fine, that's what we're doing. I've bought a few presents and haven't spend ages trawling websites and plodding the streets looking for 'the perfect' gift. I've gone for quality rather than quantity.

As your DD is 14 could she be more 'involved' with the preparations?

It's really ok to not be feeling like Mrs Christmas.

YY to Amazon prime AND then you get some movies included in it.

I’ve got various autoimmune issues and have had flu (or the effects of including three separate infections) for a month now OP- I am really not feeling Christmas. I hear you.

SheldonTheWonderShlong · 05/12/2018 14:02

that's drudge work. Drug work! Maybe that's not such a bad idea Grin

Aw, thanks for the replies, it's an awful time of year if you are suffering with any type of condition.
Mine is anxiety, used to be the life and soul at Christmas, but the this year can't face the shops.
I'm sorry to hear of your infections Reggie that must be so tough for you, I bet it can get you down. Thanks

Sheldon
You are so right, every year it just seems to be more and more to think about. I'm going to get dd involved when she finishes school and it's very early this year.

OP, I've had years like that, it's no fun. It's such a hyped up time of year and it comes along weather you're able to be 'up for it' or not. It's really nice that you think of DD. I ordered amazon stuff 2 days ago and got it today (books and art stuff for DS). Was also pleasantly surprised how many nice little treats and bits were in my little local Co-op, if you can stand going in the morning it won't be too busy I would have thought.

My suggestion is do things that help your soul and avoid shops!! Spend a bit of time in nature, it helps me feel seasonal rather than going to shopping malls which are just stuffy and chaotic and you spend a fortune on even just the parking and water coz you're thirsty etc etc. Everyobe rushing around. Bleurgh.

Look out of a window at a bird, it doesn't give a shit and it manages.

Then make a list, online shopping, click click click, you are done. Get a Christmas candle and CD for the house and your DD will feel it is Christmassy xx
