And yes, I do know that they won't know it's Christmas, and will be more interested in the wrapping paper, but I have to buy something. And I don't want to give cash!
Mum has said no to clothes, which leaves me with toys really. Any ideas for things which have gone down well?

Books for babies

Or one of the nice new Winnie the Pooh toys from the Christopher Robin film

DD is 16 weeks and has a kick and play piano which she loves. It's basically a play mat with a piano keys at one end which she can kick to make a noise. There on Amazon for £20-35 depending on which one you get but I actually found her one on eBay for £12 New.

Some kind of tasteful (not a tacky my first Christmas/baby's first Xhrustmas decoration) Christmas tree decoration. My student uncle bought a China christmas decoration for me 35+years ago while on travelling in Asia for my first Christmas. I treasure it. It is always first on the tree every year and kept in a special box in safe otherwise.

A walker? A crawl ball? Stacking cups? Books to read...highchair and weaning bits.

Natural rubber teether. Sophie Giraffe is popular but I much prefer the Lanco ones. Bamboo Bamboo bowl and spoon set ready for weaning at 6 months. Oliver Jeffers book 'Here We are notes for living on planet earth', nice bubble bath set, Manhattan skwish, multipack of sensory balls, Oball-easy to grap for tiny babies, those little mits with rattles in, a teething mit, That's Not My books.

Something lasting and personalised. A moneybox, hairbrush, music box, picture, bath towel. Notonthehighstreet do nice stuff.

Mine loved the Fischer Price baby gym.

What’s your budget?

If lower end then black and white books, bath toys, little rattle toys.

If a bit more- musical Lamaze toy, play mat/gym, mobile or projector toy for cot.

If even more- high chair, second stage car seat?

Ooooh or if luxury you could buy a lovely Grimms wooden toy like a rainbow or little Nims figures.

Our go-to do little ones are the Julia Donaldson Acorn Woods books. I appreciate the baby is a bit young now, but they quickly became favourites with both my boys, and my six year old still likes to read them (by himself now).
