I'm doing the dinner this year and inlaws are coming over. I've just started a shopping list and wondered what you all have for your Christmas meal? DH has mentioned Cauli cheese, which I wouldn't have otherwise considered.

So far I have

Turkey
Roast potatoes
Sprouts
Carrots
Roast parsnips
Yorkshire pudding
Pigs in blankets
Cauli cheese
Gravy
Stuffing
Cranberry sauce
Bread sauce
Braised red cabbage

We have a humongous spread... consider starters/puddings/drinks if that’s what you fancy too.

Meats: turkey, beef, gammon

Veg: peas, carrots, broccoli, roast parsnips, roast potatoes, swede mash, red cabbage, sprouts

Other: pigs in blankets, cauliflower/broccoli cheese, bread sauce, cranberry sauce, Yorkshire’s, gravy...

That’s about it Grin

I keep it dead simple - have done loads of dinners and this is least stressful but still delicious:
Turkey
Pigs in blanket
Homemade chestnut stuffing
Homemade cranberry sauce (dead easy and so much nicer than a jar)
Parsnips carrots and Brussels
Roast potatoes
Gravy
Xmas pud and cake (shop bought)

rosydreams · 03/12/2018 16:55

i am thinking this year

beef
glazed gammon
roasties
pigs in blankets
honey roast carrots/parsnips
brussel sprouts
broccoli
yorkshire puds
stuffing

for pud i was thinking trifle or crumble.

Whyislarryhappy · 03/12/2018 16:58

Not sure if well get turkey, chicken or lamb this year
Roast potatoes
Rice (its a Caribbean thing)
Carrots
Sweet potato
Broccoli
Stuffing
Pigs in blankets
Sprouts (maybe)
Gravy
Yorkshire puddings

Probably have a trifle for dessert as dc love it!

Whyislarryhappy · 03/12/2018 17:00

However, if I was at my mums shed do a tremendous amount
Turkey
Beef Wellington
Roast potatoes
Mash potatoes
Gravy
Cauliflower cheese
Broccoli
Carrots
Sprouts
Parsnips
Stuffing
Pigs in blankets
Bread sauce
Cranberry sauce
Yorkshire pudding

She always gets a chocolate log, rhubarb crumble, custard, cream and cherry tart

Well we're veggie with a couple of vegans, two meat eaters who have kindly said they will forego the meat!

We are having:

Starter:
Mini puff pastries filled with spicy tomato or mushrooms with salad

Main
Quinoa and Soy Roast Wellington
Veggie sausages
Roast Potatoes
New potatoes
Roasted Carrots and Parsnips
Roast Brussels with chestnuts
Runner beans
Peas
Vegan and normal Yorkshire puddings
Stuffing balls
Veggie pigs in blankets
Veggie Gravy

Desert:
Apple crumble
Xmas pudding
Custard/ice cream/cream

Followed by cheese board with vegan and veggie cheeses with crackers and grapes

"Starter" - an M&S party food packet (or maybe even 2!) cooked while we prep turkey and eaten while we open presents as turkey cooks.

Main:
Turkey
Sausage meat stuffing
Gravy
Roast potatoes
Roasted root veg (carrots, parsnips, red onions, maybe some butternut squash)
Brussels sprouts
French beans with bacon and cream
(Potentially spiced beef as well as turkey)

Cheese:
At least 3 but max of 6 cheeses with crackers
A blue (love Stilton, but we also love Shropshire Blue)
A creamy one (brie, camembert, or something recommended in cheese shop)
A hard one (lovely mature cheddar, Comte, Carrigaline, ...again often guided by cheese man)
Sometimes we'll get a sheep's or goat's cheese as well

Dessert:
Pudding with brandy flambe'ed over it
Cream

But while that looks a lot, we will only cook the amount that we will actually eat, other than turkey and cheese (leftovers will be used up with pleasure (I was going to say relish, but we don't usually eat that Xmas Grin ). And we enjoy just pottering around the kitchen making that meal together - most of it is prepped the day before and just popped into the oven for the necessary time.

MeetOnTheSIedge · 03/12/2018 17:28

Same as you minus bread sauce, braised red cabbage and cauli cheese as no one likes them. We do like cauli cheese but it really doesn't go well with a roast

MeetOnTheSIedge · 03/12/2018 17:30

Oh and no starters (big breakfast and probably some posh crisps from mid-morning). We don't really bother with pudding either, everyone is too full.

Atalune · 03/12/2018 17:36

Starter-
Smoked trout and salmon and prawns from our local fishmonger with horseradish cream and a fresh green salad, granary bread.

Main
Sausage, sage and cranberry terrine wrapped in bacon
Pigs in blankets
Baked ham
Cheesey leeks
Roasted Parmesan parsnips
Savoy cabbage
Red cabbage
Green beans
Gravy
Turkey!

Puddings
Eton mess
Yule log
Christmas pudding

Cheeses

Lashings if champagne and a big walk, games and a little snooze in amongst it. We eat ALL DAY LONG and I love it! I restrict myself day to day to maintain my health and figure so Christmas is a big big blow out! Grin

Atalune · 03/12/2018 17:37

Bloody Mary’s on waking and a latte too!!

Atalune · 03/12/2018 17:37

Bread sauce!!! Of course.

Atalune · 03/12/2018 17:37

Roasties!! Ffs how could I forget!!!

Whitney168 · 03/12/2018 17:38

Doesn't this sound horrific when you write it down ...

Turkey
Gammon
Roast potatoes
Roast parsnips
Pigs in blankets
Sausagemeat stuffing (usually two sorts)
Cauliflower cheese
Red cabbage
Sprouts
Carrots
Peas
Gravy
Cranberry sauce

No starters here, have never seen the point with Christmas dinner.

Eventually we'll get to pudding, but will have a break for a couple of hours beforehand - have homemade Christmas pud and will do another dessert too (whatever grabs me nearer the time) and always have a big bowl of fruit salad too.

Need to have loads of leftovers too, they're the best bit - several days of cold stuff, a Christmas turkey and rice dish, then finishing off with everything left over - meat, veg, gravy, cheese, cranberry sauce, whatever - getting chucked in a Christmas pie!

Bubblysqueak · 03/12/2018 17:45

I'm catering for 12 and am doing-
Turkey crown
Roast potatoes
Mashed potatoes
Roast parsnips
Carrots (can't decide whether to roast or not)
Sprouts
Peas
Sweetcorn
Yorkshire puddings (both dairy free and normal)
Stuffing
Pigs in blankets
Stuffing
Cranberry sauce
Gravy
