Christmas desserts

... do you make anything special for people who don’t like Christmas desserts (Christmas cake, mince pies, Christmas pudding).

Normally I would just eat ALL the chocolate but this year we’re hosting and wondered what I could make that’s a bit more special / Christmassy! Any ideas?

I do pavlova and trifle.

I'm doing pavlova and trifle this year too. I've made nigellas girdle buster pie in the past and that's gone down well.

We often go to friends for Christmas and it's our job to bring dessert and wine. We always take a baked cheesecake as well as Christmas pudding, by special request! Most people have some of both.

same here - Pavlova cheesecake and trifle and also a choc log
Plus lots of cheese biscuits and fruit

ZsaZsaMc · 01/12/2018 22:18

Googling pavlovas!

Really good trifle
White chocolate roulade with raspberries and meringue with a Cointreau cream
Dark chocolate mousse with pistachios and orange zest sprinkled on top
Roast pineapple with homemade coconut ice cream and lovely thin hazelnut biscuits

I get a toffee and pecan roulade from either Tesco or Aldi!! They are incredible!

I do a multi layer meringue thing with chestnut purée, boozy cream and chocolate chunks. It’s delicious

I’m a decent enough cook, but I cheat and buy something frozen as an alternative dessert for Christmas Day.

Then I make a trifle & a fruit salad for Boxing Day when there is more time. This year I’m making this chocolate & Baileys trifle, which is easy but very good. www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/boozy-brownie-trifle

Ali that sounds delicious - thanks for the link!

Also it seems like meringue is heavily involved which I like (but would never usually have at home) so definitely looks like the way to go. Sooo much better than dried fruit, dried fruit, dried fruit

Check out nigellas chocolate pavlova. I always do this at Christmas and the whole family love it! We also make a biscoff cheesecake too😊

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 02/12/2018 07:54

Would definitely recommend it Grin

Nigella’s Christmas pavlova from “How to be a Domestic Goddess”. Really easy to do and lovely tasting. You can put all sorts of fruit on it.

Bloodybridget · 02/12/2018 07:58

I usually make a chocolate Yule log (such fun making it look loggy with a robin and holly sprig on top and a dusting of icing sugar snow) and a trifle.

FelicityLemon · 02/12/2018 10:03

I do the Nigella raspberry trifle, always goes down well.

cheeseandcrackers · 02/12/2018 10:54

Nigella's chocolate Yule log - my family love it & it's gluten free too

I made this for DDs birthday yesterday. No cooking, just assembling and it went down really well with everyone. There are some great recipes on this site. Usually I make something like a trifle, a cheesecake and we have warm mince pies with cream/ice cream but everyone asked to have this for christmas instead.
