Inexpensive Christmassy scents for home?

KatyNana · 01/12/2018 19:01

Any recommendations?
Candles, diffusers etc. Nothing very expensive. We are hosting Christmas and I want to have lovely smells in all the rooms.
I've hurt my leg so it's good if I can buy stuff online, but don't want to end up with things that smell artifical and not nice!

Yankee candle have lots of lovely Christmas scents and you can pick wax tarts up for £1-2 and a burner from Poundland so it won’t cost as much as the candles, air wick also have some lovely Christmas sprays and plug ins I used last year

sleepismysuperpower1 · 01/12/2018 19:29

these candles always smell really nice link, as do yankee candles. i found that you can buy once used ones on ebay, for less than half the cost. link

M&S have a mandarin, cinnamon and clove candle which I bought for my DM but might actually keep for myself because it smells so good!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/12/2018 19:44

I'm very Hmm with my Yankee Candle , I bought a Large "Sparkling Cinnamon" , my favourite Christmas scent . (Yankee Store special offer , I was delighted) .......but it smells of wax Xmas Sad

I'm now on the search for a nice candle , might have to go down the White Company route?

Crimbobimbo · 01/12/2018 19:46

St eval my new favourite. There's winter thyme and an orange and cinnamon one. I've switched from white company Winter as they are half the price.

MissMarplesKnitting · 01/12/2018 19:50

I got a lovely candle from my garden centre. It's a make called heart and home and it's called Christmas tree and it smells EXACTLY like a real tree. I keep sniffing it.....

KatyNana · 01/12/2018 21:56

Shearer candles www.shearer-candles.com/scented-candles/frankincense-and-myrrh?limit=all smell devine. You can get them on amazon if you’ve got prime you could have them tomorrow, I just by the tea lights :)

Sainsbury’s also do a nice Christmas one but can’t remember what it’s called - the red one.

babysharkah · 01/12/2018 22:02

Next room spray is £5 and really nice. Yankee candles give me a headache.

CountFosco · 01/12/2018 22:06

Buy nice soap from TKMaxx and your bathroom will smell lush.

I always get the kids to make pomanders to make the house smell good at Christmas. Cheap and gorgeous.

DeepIn40 · 01/12/2018 22:07

Wickford & Co candles)like Yankee) from Home Bargains. Love love the gingerbread one and at a fraction of the price WinkGrin

It’s much nicer to get a scented oil, IMO. M&S does them for not much money. £5 I think, but one little bottle of oil has lasted me two Christmases so far with at least another two to g. I put out a bowl of the matching Christmas pot pourri on a table in front of a radiator so the heat helps the oil to diffuse, and then I refresh the scent with the oil as needed. I only have a small living room so it works very well and the aroma is just right - not so strong to be stifling, but definitely makes it feel very cosy and Christmassy. If you need to scent to permeate a bigger space you could put a few drops of the oil onto each radiator to achieve the same effect.

This year and last I have used their frankincense and myrrh oil, but they also do a mandarin, clove and cinnamon one which is very nice.

I have just purchased 2 Aldi plug ins which the scent 'winterberry' they are lovely and much nicer than their vanilla scents.

TheOnlyPink · 02/12/2018 11:44

I got a recommendation from this site for Candle Belle and I bought 3 wax melts to try and I'm really impressed. Beautiful fragrance and good quality. Things like yankee can give my dh headaches, but these dont. I burned a full tea light in one go, and the scent lingered in my living room until the following day.

Wormwoodm · 02/12/2018 11:53

Go to home sense and to maxx, you can get really nice ones heavily reduced.

MickHucknallspinkpancakes · 02/12/2018 12:24

Zara home have gingerbread scented candles, soap and roomscenters.

I'm absolutely addicted to them, I even have the fragrance in the car freshener. Blush

Stompythedinosaur · 02/12/2018 18:10

I'm really liking my Fox and Ivy mulled wine candle I got from Tescos. It was £8 (and was being sold as an advent candle but I'm just burning as I like) and is lasting for a good long time.

Otterses · 02/12/2018 18:20

B&M or Home Bargins (can't remember which) have MASSIVE ginger bread jar candles for £2.99 Grin it's really strong, even when not lit. Burning really evenly too.

jalopy · 02/12/2018 19:11

Stick cloves into a large orange. The aroma is fabulous.

MinecraftHolmes · 02/12/2018 19:28

I love the M&S Frankincense and Myrrh candle, and the Mandarin, Clove and Cinnamon one. Smells amazing, and I got 3 for 2 on the individual mini glitter candles which are £4 each.

HolgerLowCarbingLoser · 02/12/2018 19:41

I love the little scented glitter candles from M&S! I’ve had them every Christmas for the past 4 or 5 years. Especially the red ones are so pretty and they really sparkle well in the light from the tree.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 02/12/2018 20:44

Ooh , I've had a thought .
Many years ago we used to buy the Neals Yard oils and put them in a burner . You have to blow the candle out before the water evaporates or it makes you choke ! We didn;t use them once we had DS .

DH bought one of the electric burners last year , I will search up the cinnamon and mandarin oils now .....

IdaDown · 03/12/2018 06:35

St Eval - Inspiritus.

KatyNana · 03/12/2018 09:05

Mmm so many good suggestions.
I may get some of those oils actually as then I don't need to worry about kids and candles or indeed actually remembering to light them. And I'm off to Google making pomanders now.
