I am looking for your amazing ideas for Santa to leave the DC's a surprise trip to Disney.

Does he leave a letter, gift, box, balloon etc? I'm overwhelmed with it all!

sleepismysuperpower1 · 01/12/2018 16:21

get a box with a lid, fill a balloon in the shape of mickey mouse with helium, and tie a note on the bottom of the balloon's string. place the balloon in the box, wrap the box up,, and you are done :)

When do you go? If it's next year sometime then it's all s bit underwhelming. My friend was upset at the big reveal.... kids thought they were going the next day so we're a bit 'meh' about the whole thing

SimplyPut · 01/12/2018 22:35

We don't go until April so perhaps not as exciting as I thought. They have other gifts this was supposed to be a surprise from santa.

How old are the kids? I agree that it might be a disappointing reaction when they realise it's months away.

Mumshappy · 01/12/2018 22:47

A letter if its in April and maybe something disney with it like the headbands with the minnie ears as they be worn on the plane etc.(or the boys equivalent)

TheBigBangRocks · 01/12/2018 23:14

A friend had the same reaction to to a trip. It was months after Christmas and the children didn't see it as a Christmas gift really.

I'd only "gift" a holiday for a birthday or Christmas if it was within a few days.

piefacedClique · 01/12/2018 23:16

There are personalised scratch cards on notonthehighstreet?

BeardedMum · 01/12/2018 23:20

If the kids are young April is ages away

Muddlingalongalone · 01/12/2018 23:21

I'm getting a whiteboard & magnetic letters & numbers to do a countdown.
Also autograph books/ears/dvds/dressing up dresses as presents.Slightly different as mine are with their dad for Christmas so going to do it new years eve after panto.

babysharkah · 01/12/2018 23:41

We told ours about Disney the day before we went. I think April is a bit far to be tangible tbh unless they're old enough to get properly involved in planning?

SimplyPut · 02/12/2018 08:30

Definitely old enough to understand (8 and teens) and definitely an extra gift on top only next years usual holiday. Perhaps we have got it wrong.

I think it's a great idea OP. My 8 year old would be thrilled and would understand the wait.

ShowOfHands · 02/12/2018 08:38

My two were given a trip to Disney by BIL and his gf last year. Trip wasn't until May and they did a big reveal at Christmas. They're 7 and 11 and it was perfectly well received. They had an enormous box under the tree. Then a smaller one inside it. And a smaller one inside that. And so on. Until they got to a Disney card and poem inside telling them they were going. They also gave them Disney pyjamas to unwrap before this. DS was vibrating with joy, laughed, cried, laughed again and was just over the moon. DD thought it was a trick at first (she knows we could never afford it so assumed she would never go).

dizzygirl1 · 02/12/2018 08:40

We did it 2 years ago at Christmas for a October trip. We had a bag of goodies each.... Completely after the presents had been opened. Lots of disney stuff (tsum tsums and clothes etc) then the last 2 were a countdown board and a card with $10 in. It meant they knew we weren't going tomorrow but we're going and could plan and get excited. The kids loved unwrapping and trying to guess what it meant and the final 2 where they realised was amazing.

bellinisurge · 02/12/2018 08:45

Can't you do it as a back to school in the New Year surprise? No one likes going back to school/work. Maybe this as a bonus would be great. Even do it as a Santa must have left this and we missed it thing. If it must be from Santa.
Just don't let them brag to school pals.
Can I come Grin?

HermioneWeasley · 02/12/2018 08:47

8 and teens definitely old enough to “get it” and enjoy the anticipation!

Are there things that would be useful there? My kids don’t carry back packs but have water bottle holders they wear over their shoulders which save stopping at every water fountain or me having to pass them their bottles every 5 minutes.

Anyway my point was maybe you can get them a “survival” pack, or a guide book? (Brit guide to Orlando is excellent)

Monr0e · 02/12/2018 08:48

I think it sounds lovely OP and the dc's are old enough to understand the wait. They will still be excited. I agree, get something Disney themed and a letter.

Not quite the same but we are doing similar only were going centre Parcs not Disney! I've bought the dc's a new swimsuit each which I'll wrap and put in a Christmas gift box along with a golden envelope with a letter and photo inside telling them we are going. It's not till February but I know they'll love it and I'm sure yours will too.

Alevel · 02/12/2018 08:49

Show of hands what a lovely BIL. Did you go with your dc or did they go with your BIL?

MrsDrSpencerReid · 02/12/2018 08:49

My kids knew in July when we were going the following April. They were 6 & 8 at the time and they loved counting down Smile

I like the Disney balloon idea, or a special box each with little Disney bits & bobs in it with a Disney themed card saying where you’re going. Maybe include some sort of a count down too?

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 02/12/2018 08:50

We got Chip and Dale toys with personalised tags reading Paris 2017. Put them in a box with a note saying See You in May and added a calendar with the dates marked in big letters.

Kids were 10 and 8 and loved it

Momasita · 02/12/2018 08:55

Seeing its not until April... I'm not sure. Initially I thought you may leaving boxing day or something.
Either wait until nearer the time.. Or just do smaller reveal.

SimplyPut · 02/12/2018 09:01

We have gifted trips before as extras and they have always been for February half term or Easter break so figure this will be no different.
With London we wrapped up themed tree decorations and included theatre tickets and HP tour tickets.

The big to small boxes is a good idea. I have Disney pj's for us all and Disney T-shirts for the DC's. I also like the balloon and letter idea.

Alevel my BIL and his gf are indeed lovely. Or naive given they are childfree! They took the DC for 4 nights and came back exhausted. DS had the most extraordinary time and talks about it every day. We genuinely couldn't afford such a holiday (they'd never been abroad before then and mil bought them passports so they could go). They were extremely lucky to receive such a lovely gift.

MissMalice · 02/12/2018 10:45

I think perhaps making it clear that the surprise isn’t til April and then revealing where is better than revealing Disney and then saying “Oh but not til April”.
