What to buy wealthy relatives?

My aunt and uncle are very wealthy and I find them extremely difficult to buy for. They are very generous with gifts for us so I really want to do a good job but I can never think of anything good. They live abroad so weight and size need to be taken into account, although if I find something heavy but good I can wait until I see them. They like art, reading (but books are heavy to post), walking, birds. Nothing for the house as everything is "curated". I just feel like everything I could buy is worse than anything they could buy themselves. Any ideas gratefully received!

What about a voucher for the theatre or a restaurant?

My in laws are quite wealthy and voucher gifts for restaurants, theatres or experiences go down a treat

The most successful present I gave a wealthy relative was a lovely framed design photo of her pet.

I have no idea why the word ‘design’ crept in there.

If they are abroad now about a hamper of "British" foods - inc Christmassy bits like cake, pudding etc - Waitrose or M&S at least? Suppose that would be heavy though.

How about a well chosen Christmas decoration for their tree? I have bought a John Lewis glass passport ornament for my friend. She is hard to buy for but loves travel. Very light and you could package beautifully.

I moved abroad four years ago and agree that old favourites that you can't get here would go down very well.

Depending on your budget what about a magazine subscription?

Alanamackree · 02/12/2018 07:47

What is your budget?

Photo in frame is always welcome. Be careful if it is a picture of them - but a pet is genius.

Charbonnel et Walker rose and violet creams are also a classic

I get the children to make a decoration for their tree. I can't buy them something that would work so give time and thought instead.

Order something online from a department store/theatre/amazon equivalent of their home country. what you save in postage fees means you can spend a bit more on their gift. I think M&S don't charge fees for certain countries so worth checking if you qualify for free postage. You could send them a M&S hamper.

Send a hamper? You can send some fortnums hampers internationally
