Large 16+ Lego sets...

Each year we have family presents which are normally board games/puzzle type things. Was thinking this year about getting a really good (expensive!) Lego set. Maybe the carousel or the Parisian restaurant.

Are these suitable for more than one person to build? Could a few of us sit around a table and build it together? Or are they a one person thing?

Well, they're built in stages, step by step. So I'm not sure if more than one person at a time would get in the way. My son has made the Parisian restaurant, it's sitting opposite me as I type Smile. I used to sort the pieces into the different colours sometimes which I enjoyed, so someone else could be doing that.

I'll have a look at the instruction booklets later to see if separate stages could be made at the same time. I'll get back to you.

Sound lovely sitting around with your family like that.

We built the bucket wheel loader with DS(6) last Christmas. I was reading ahead, finding the pieces whilst DH and DS put it together.

We started to buy the Lego ideas set as a Christmas Eve activity. So far have the Beatles yellow submarine, dr who, Big Bang theory, ship in a bottle (it’s awesome!), the fishing store, and this year we have the Saturn V. It’s a lot of fun!

We share doing Lego. Two pages a turn before passing on. Usually only 2 people though as gets boring waiting for your turn and sometimes your turn only involves putting a couple of bricks on.

That's great. Thank you.
The Parisian restaurant looks gorgeous but I thought maybe the carousel would have more parts we could build together.

Taking turns and finding pieces would be okay though. We are all quite grown up (apparently ;-)

How much space do you have for the finished build? One year I got Tower Bridge for Christmas and DS and I built that together. It worked really well because the two towers are identical so we both worked on the same pages at the same time building one tower each.

There's three separate booklets for different parts of the Parisian restaurant, the same with Palace cinema/Chinese theatre. Two booklets for the Pet Shop. So I'd say it's doable.

Some have different book sets for different pieces op. Do you live near a Lego shop? I always find the staff incredibly knowledgeable and helpful.

And almost as LEGO nerdy as DS. 🤣

How about the architecture sets of London-big Ben etc as they have several buildings?

SleepySofa · 30/11/2018 08:35

All of the modular buildings have different 'floors' that can be built pretty much independently, I think.

And the Detectives Office and Brick Bank are retiring soon, so I'd snap one of them up quick.

This is looking good as a possibility then. Will check out recommendations. Can see this being an annual event!

We always buy a Lego set to build on Boxing Day. Such fun!

I’ve recently got into Lego again as I have a 4 year old DS who’s had a lot of sets bought for him - we’ve had so much fun building it together that I went out and bought the Old Fishing Store, the Detectives Office and the Brick Bank, and now have to work out a way to produce them without ng mad at me spending hundreds of pounds on Lego! They’re hiding in my car boot atm. He knows about the Detectives Office so I’m having that for Xmas, I’ve got him the smaller Millenium Falcon as one of his Xmas presents, so I think I can have the Fishing Store as a family present for Boxing Day... the Brick Bank will have to remain hidden for a bit longer.

Without DP going mad at me, that should say.
