Stocking for newborn

Eminybob · 30/11/2018 02:46

Ds2 will be 4 weeks old at Christmas. I want to do him a stocking, mostly for ds1’s benefit who will otherwise wonder why Santa has forgotten his brother.

But I have no idea what to put in it. Aside from a cuddly toy, a first Xmas bib maybe? A book?
Don’t want to spend too much as he has everything he needs, but need some inspiration/ideas!
Thank you.

Christmas bib, that's not my book, little comforter, nice flannel? Dd2 was due just before Christmas last year and I had a stocking ready for the same reason. We use cloth nappies so I had a newborn nappy for her. She was born late so this Christmas she will be very nearly 1!

Lovingbenidorm · 30/11/2018 02:53

Firstly I’d say make it a very small stocking!
Presumably ds1 is going to open it for ds2 so how about some things for ds2 in it? Like some chocolate with a tag saying “merry Christmas ds2! This is for you to give to your big brother for being so lovely.
Or a toy that’s obviously meant for an older child saying “ get your big bro to show you how this works”

Dummies
Socks
Teethers
Baby bubble bath

FrenchieGrey · 30/11/2018 03:39

A taggie, socks, flashing led ball, musical instrument

topcat2014 · 30/11/2018 06:58

DD (who is now 12) was 6 w/old her first Christmas - and she still uses the musical stocking with moving Antlers that we bought :)

She doesn't 'believe' this year, but still expects a visit!

happyasasandboy · 30/11/2018 07:30

A rubber duck
A bell/rattle
A book
A teddy
A bib
A new baby grow /vest /hat

I would also include any "every year" items you do, even if baby can use them. For us this would include a satsuma, baby of chocolate coins, a bell ...

Jackshouse · 30/11/2018 07:32

Toothbrush.

MerryMarigold · 30/11/2018 07:33

Anything 'useful' which you use anyway like travel formula, calpol, swim nappy.

Littlebelina · 30/11/2018 07:37

So far we have dribble bibs, buggy toy and a dvd (this might be a little bit for me) Going to get bath toys, a book and perhaps a wooden toy if I see a nice one

Thank you for the replies - some great ideas.

Think about what he will need over the next 6 months to a year. And anything cute and travel sized for the nappy bag is also great.

Bum cream (Sudocreme has tiny pots, and we also got tiny pots of Vaseline recently too - for 2 new babies in the wider family, or sample sizes of bepanthen or whatever)
Sippy cup
Dummies?

A 1st Christmas Bib
Rattle for the buggy or a small teddy or other small toy
Board book
Pack of vests next size up
Colourful swim nappy
Nice hat for winter walks (could there be matching hats for both?)

CoffeeChocolateWine · 30/11/2018 11:37

Christmas baby grow
Bubble bath
Baby lotion
Rattle
Soft toy
Dummy/teether thing
Hat
Socks
Wooden letters/name plaque to go on his bedroom door
Rubber duck
Sponge/flannel
Blanket

CoffeeChocolateWine · 30/11/2018 11:38

1st Christmas tree decoration

Whyislarryhappy · 30/11/2018 11:47

I did this for my ds, he was 4m at the time. He had a few other presents too.
In the stoking I put -
Teething rings and teething toys
Dummies
Wrist rattles
Soft rattles
Maracas
Board book
Musical pull me toy for buggy
Xmas themed winter hat
Fluffy sleep suit
Mini teddy

CakeNinja · 30/11/2018 16:47

We did what pretty much everyone else did! Couple of soft toys, some jazzy sleepsuits,
Rattles, bath toys, books, just whatever he would need in the next few months. He was about 7 weeks at Christmas I think.

Equimum · 01/12/2018 07:35

DS2 was three month for his first Christmas. He got things like:
Wooden rattle
Fabric ‘tails’ book
Nice sleepsuit
Wooden name letters for his bedroom door
Small buggy toy

PandaG · 01/12/2018 07:53

If you're using bottles at all next flow up teats, if using formula a couple of premixed cartons for when you are out. Set of crockery/ cutlery for weaning, baby shampoo/baby wash etc. Stuff you would be buying anyway but is clearly for baby. Fills up the stocking for the sake of older brother, but not adding to clutter in the house!

Then a couple of toys - rattles, soft toy, those socks with a toy attached (maybe a Christmassy one?) so there are a few treats too?

Eminybob · 01/12/2018 09:01

It’s a shame that DS1 has already seen all his old baby toys since getting them down from the loft otherwise I could have wrapped a couple of those up.

OP posts:
Rosehips · 01/12/2018 10:35

a toy for the baby to 'share' with the big kid.

Starlight345 · 01/12/2018 10:38

I would wrap up some of the forgotten toys you have .

When Ds says I had one of those Santa remembered how much you loved it so sent one for your brother

AdaColeman · 01/12/2018 13:14

A Christmas DVD that the older child will enjoy.
A chocolate Father Christmas, older child will have to help out eating that!
Teething ring.... are they still used?
Soft fabric ball.
