My kitchen smells amazing

I’m drying out slices of oranges, lemons, and limes in the oven for my wreath and some other decorations that’ll go up in December.

My kitchen smells of warm citrus. It’s stunning.

Any nice Christmassy smells in your house recently?

Does emulsion count??
Decided to decorate passage /staircases (4) living room and a quick coat of paint in the kitchen!!

Urbanbeetler · 29/11/2018 13:22

That sounds so nice. What temperature is the oven at?

GVmama · 29/11/2018 13:24

Oh wow, I bet that smells amazing. My favourite Christmassy smell is warm mince pies Smile

JustHereForThePooStories · 29/11/2018 13:31

@Urbanbeetler I have them at 100c in my fan oven, so about 110-120 in a standard oven.

Cut fruits into slices of about 1cm, remove any pips. Place on an oven-safe wire rack (I use my metal cooling racks) so air can circulate.

Turn every 20-30 mins, especially at the start, to prevent sticking.

Takes about 3 hours, but can vary depending on the fruit.

I’m going to our huge-bowl-for-a-quid greengrocer- you have inspired me! Thank you 😊

Right.

The results.

Lemons and limes too a lot less time. I should have cut them slightly thicker, but they worked well.

Oranges were very juicy when I cut them, and took 4 hours. Though I did turn the oven down by 20 degrees for the last 1.5 hours.

Soon similar here, since I've just put some citrus in the oven after reading your OP! So thank you.
Sometime tomorrow there will be a smell that won't be Christmassy to anyone but me. We have a v old wooden chest mostly covered with ornamental brass and copper. It's a major job to polish it, so only ever gets done pre Christmas (looks lovely afterwards!), hence I've come to associate the smell of Brasso with Christmas!
Since its 1st Dec tomorrow, will probably have carols on while I'm doing it. And first batch of mince pies in the oven. Smile

Always have a Christmas Yankee candle burning through December, love the mulled wine air freshener too and the smell of mince pies and..tinsel Blush

I thought this was going to be another Zoflora thread Grin.

I have never tried doing this but it sounds amazing and has just been added to my to do list.

JustHereForThePooStories · 30/11/2018 15:15

@GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER arhat sounds lovely! I find the smell of Brasso very evocative too.

I have been slowly drying out lemon, orange and grapefruit slices in my oven all day today thanks to this thread and I feel v happy. Whole house smells beautiful.

JustHereForThePooStories · 02/12/2018 17:02

Oooh, grapefruit. Hadn’t thought of that. Must smell lovely!

Going to sound like a really daft question, OP, but can you eat the results or are they just for decoration once dried?

JustHereForThePooStories · 02/12/2018 17:15

Just for decoration, @Craftycorvid. Can also be used as garnishes in drinks.

Now, I did have a tiny little lick of a piece of orange once it cooled Blush, and it tastes nice but wouldn’t be edible. It goes very hard and dry.
